  • 1 lb Ground sausage We like Jimmy Dean "hot" pork sausage.
  • ¼ cup Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper

For Breakfast Burger Sauce

  • ½ cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Toppings

  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 2 Onions sliced
  • 4 slices White cheddar or Pepper Jack
  • 4 slices Cooked bacon broken in half
  • 4 slices Tomato
  • 4 Eggs fried
  • 4 Bagels flavor of your choice; lightly toasted

Instructions

To Caramelize Onions

  • In a small skillet on medium heat melt 4 tablespoons butter and add in onion slices. Let cook until they caramelize, stirring occasionally. They will take approx. 20 minutes to caramelize.

To Make Breakfast Burger Patties

  • While your onions cook; mix together sausage, beef, maple syrup, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Form mixture into 4 large patties.
  • In a large skillet cook burgers on medium heat for 5-6 minutes per side. Add Cheese to the burgers in the 1-2 minutes.

Prepare Sauce

  • While burgers and onions are cooking, mix together mayo, BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire, and garlic powder.

Adding Toppings

  • Fry 4 eggs until they are medium well and lightly toast the onion bagels.
  • Assemble burgers in the following order: add sauce to both sides of bagel, place caramelized onions on top of bottom bagel slice, then the burger, bacon, egg, tomato, and top bagel slice.

Notes

This recipe makes four ½ pound burgers. You could reduce patties with 1/4 pound meat and make 8 patties. Just plan accordingly with extra toppings and bagels.
