Those are the makings of my first ever wine and chocolate Galentine’s party. Seriously, my two Valentine’s Day desserts are simply good purchased chocolates and my easy white chocolate puff corn.

A Galentine’s party does not have to be overly complicated. I opted for a very simple after-work get-together. At Walmart the week before, I had stocked up on the bags of Ghirardelli that have a variety of flavored chocolates such as raspberry and milk chocolate, caramel and milk chocolate, and caramel and dark chocolate with sea salt. I also gathered supplies for my popular white chocolate popcorn and a few bottles of Josh Cellars wine.

My Valentine’s Day tablescape was also really simple. I used the wine and chocolate and the popcorn as part of the table decor, adding some flowers The Hubs had gotten my daughter a few weeks back (surprisingly still fresh), and I added a few heart picks that I stole from other Valentine’s decor around the house. The little kissing booth plaque is one I found at Walmart last week. I bought one to add to the gift box for my secret Galentine on Instagram, too. And, yes, I am one of those cheesy people who gets way too into secret pal exchanges. The table linens consisted of a gold tablecloth and a large bunched up piece of pink polka dot fabric.

The extra chocolate tempted us from inside a candy bowl on the counter.

Pairing Wine and Chocolate for a Wine and Chocolate Party

I’ve tasted chocolate and wine a time or two in my day. Granted, I’m no expert. So I did a little research.

According to the wine and chocolate enthusiasts of the interwebs, choosing a wine that is just slightly sweeter than the chocolate is a good rule of thumb. For instance, my white chocolate popcorn (or any white chocolate) makes for a good match to another sweet flavor, such as Moscato. Since many ladies seem to enjoy Moscato, this wine seems a good choice for a wine and chocolate party.  Rosé and Riesling would also be good pairings for white chocolate.

Milk chocolate goes well against the fruitiness of Pinot Noir. Additionally, milk chocolate is thought to pair well with Merlot and the range of dessert wines.

As for dark chocolate, a wine with more intensity such as Zinfandel or Cabernet might be your best choice. Shiraz might be a good choice as well.

White Chocolate Popcorn for a Wine and Chocolate Valentine’s Day Party

The night before the party, I whipped up my white chocolate popcorn. Often, I add colored sprinkles to go along with the theme of the party. I thought about using red and pink, but then I decided to melt some Ghirardelli dark chocolate baking disks and drizzled that over the popcorn instead. After the party, The Hubs came home and devoured the leftovers.

He said, “You know I’ve always love this white chocolate popcorn, but something about this dark chocolate on it really took it up a notch further!”

We had a great time gabbing it up and enjoying the wine and chocolate at our laid-back Galentine’s party!

    My favorite chocolate is the caramel squares! I love how silky smooth the caramel is and it melts in your mouth!

    I have never paired chocolate and wine before. Usually I am so content with my chocolate or wine that I don’t even consider adding one when I have the other!!

    THe Ghirardelli chocolates are so delicious and my favorite flavor is the Milk Chocolate with caramel. I love the caramel because it oozes out and is so good. I need to pair it with wine!

    That popcorn with the chocolate looks so good! I am not a red wine person. I prefer sweet white wines and my favorite chocolate is pretty much any milk chocolate with caramel.
