I’ve been looking forward to writing this post about what to wear to Disney World for weeks now – before we ever even left for Disney World! We have only been home from our Disney World vacation for two days and here I am, fingers flying on the keyboard. Also, later in the post I am including our general Disney packing lists with Amazon links. This list has everything we – my husband, our two elementary-aged daughters, and myself – packed for Disney. Hopefully, this post can inspire you as to what to pack and how to plan cute outfits for Disney. And if you are a girl mom, I have suggestions on what girls Disney outfits and accessories to pack! I’m posting pictures of our summer Disney outfits – including our Minnie inspired polka dot outfits. It is truly something I stressed about before our trip.

In the months leading up to our trip, I had so many questions. What should I wear to Disney World? Seriously, what should a woman wear to Disney World? Should I dress the girls and I up in Minnie Mouse inspired outfits? Will I look childish if I dress up in theme? Do we need Disney World family outfits for every single park? What shoes to wear to Disney World? I was even stressing for my husband (though he clearly was not)…what clothes to wear at Disney World for men?
One of my favorite things to do while at the Disney World parks and at the resort was to people watch and check out cute Disney outfits – especially Disney outfits for women and family outfits to wear to Disney. Themed outfits just make my heart swoon! For me, the themed Disney outfits are part of the overall experience and fun.
In the week we were at Disney, I saw it all. I saw adorable matching family Disney outfits, perfection with animal prints at Animal Kingdom, effort-laden themed Star Wars shirts at Hollywood Studios, super casual but comfy t-shirts and shorts, and precious Minnie polka dot skirt outfits at Magic Kingdom. I saw gazillions of cute Disney shirts for the family that had been carefully selected by the mom/wife of the group, no doubt.
Unfortunately, I also saw nude spandex shorts and tops sets, see-through nude leggings being worn as pants with cropped tops, nearly see through shirts with no bras underneath, and booty cheeks hanging out from too-short denim cut offs. I would file all of these things under what not to wear to Disney World!
Indeed, it was a full Disney outfit experience, y’all!
Prior to the trip, the Hubs thought I was going overboard with planning our family outfits for Disney. You’d think the man would know me after all these years. It’s just what I do.
Besides, once we arrived at Disney World, he saw for himself the full landscape of matching family Disney outfits. At that point, he realized I was just doing what Disney peeps do!
If you don’t care anything about themed Disney outfits and you aren’t worried about what to wear to Disney, it’s okay. There are plenty of people there wearing their regular clothes. Hopefully, the Disney packing guide at the end of my post can still help you!
But if you are wondering what to wear to Disney, here ya go…
What to Wear to Disney World in Summer or Spring
Our Disney vacation was in early June, and Disney World is hot this time of year! And considering I’ve been to Florida multiple times in my life in different hot-weather months, I would suggest the following outfits for any of those warmer months. Therefore, these outfits can be considered for what to wear to Disney World in May, what to wear to Disney World in June, what to wear to Disney World in July, and what to wear to Disney World in August. You could even consider these summer Disney World outfits for what to wear to Disney World in September. It is still hot in September! And the sun is still fierce in Florida that time of year. Viewing the Orlando temperature averages month by month, you can see from June through September, the daily highs in Orlando stay in the 90s. HOT!
As for what to wear to Disney World in spring months, you will see many people breaking out the shorts and t-shirts. As for what to wear to Disney World in March, it might be a good idea to pack a hoodie or sweater for the evening fireworks show or night riding – especially since many of the rides are outdoors and breezy. For April and May, the highs stay in the 80s typically while the lows fall into the 60s.
What to Wear to Disney World in Fall or Winter
Thanks to Florida’s position in the universe, the fall months remain somewhat warm. Disney World outfit ideas for September and October will not stray that much from the Disney outfit suggestions for summer. You will want to layer up (especially in the evenings) as the months approach into winter. Hoodies, light jackets, will come in handy for November through February. In Orlando, the daily temperature averages range from the 70s down to the 50s with December being the coldest (and sometimes hitting the upper 40s.)
Remember that you may be waiting outdoors in long lines with little movement (meaning chillier than if you are walking) or riding outdoor rides with a breeze. Keep this in mind when thinking out what to wear to Disney World in December or January!
Red Polka Dot Outfit Inspo for What to Wear to Disney World
Find these red and white polka dot outfits will bring full Minnie glam to your Disney trip!
- These red and white polka dot pants have pockets and a drawstring top. They have a thin, smooth fabric and are definitely better suited for the warmer months – but not the “sweat dripping from the backside” kind of warm months, if you know what I mean. Again, the fabric is thin. This is good for breeziness but also can lead to sweat puddles showing through. They are oh so cute!
- This red and white polka dot t-shirt dress is uber comfortable! With a pair of bike shorts underneath, there is no Disney task this dress isn’t up for!
- This red and white polka dot dress maxi style is the IT Disney dress! It is perfect for evenings at the parks, table service restaurants at the parks and at the resorts. It does seem to wrinkle easily since the fabric is thin, but it is also very breathable. Mine was a little long for me since I didn’t have time to have it altered before our trip. I’m five foot tall so most people wouldn’t have that issue.
Our Favorite Matching Family Outfits for Disney
Stick together with these family Disney shirts!
Men’s Shirts for Disney
While you see plenty of Disney shirts for women everywhere you look, rest assured there are tons of great Disney shirts for men, too!
- This Hakuna Matata men’s t-shirt is the perfect men’s Animal Kingdom shirt. It comes in multiple colors and you can also order it in women’s and children’s sizes.
- I thought this grumpy Donald Duck t-shirt for men perfectly matched to my sometimes grumpy Hubs! Haha! He thought it was funny, too!
- A dad Mickey Mouse t-shirt like this works for multiple parks. The Hubs wore his to Hollywood Studios.
Minnie Inspired Swimsuits
Look, none of us are swimsuit models. And I sure don’t have time for any Photoshop nonsense. Beee nice.
- My red and white polka dot retro swimsuit is from Walmart from a view years ago. I love it! This red and white polka dot retro one piece swimsuit is quite similar. And then there is this red polka dot monokini. So fun! Speaking of fun, check out this red and white polka dot bikini with the adorable cut out! If you want a more modest women’s Minnie Mouse swimsuit variation, go for this red polka dot tankini set. And don’t miss this swingy red polka dot swim cover up that I would probably also use as a dress with bike shorts.
- Is a Disney World vacation complete without a Minnie Mouse swimsuit for girls? I got the yellow one pictured above from TJ Maxx. But this vacay vibes Minnie swimsuit is just as cute! And so is this polka dot Minnie swimsuit for toddlers and this simple red and white polka swimsuit for bigger girls. Something about this moderate coverage polka dot swim suit is appealing as it can convert from swim to play with the added skirt. This Minnie Mouse swimsuit set with rash guard shirt comes in sizes 2-10 girls. Here is another Minnie Mouse one piece with rash guard top is also adorable and comes in sizes 2-7 girls.
Our Mommy and Me matching coordinating pink and black and white polka dot swimsuits are from the swimwear collection at Marie Nicole Clothing.
More Items from Our Disney Packing Lists
Now that you kind of know what to wear to Disney World and have an idea of your Disneybound outfits, you should also consider your accessories and other essentials that will make your Disney World trip run more smoothly. I am sharing my Disney packing list with links of the things that we really did find helpful.
Other Ideas for What to Wear to Disney World from Our Personal Disney Packing Lists
- These red harem shorts and long striped kimono are a perfect red, white, and black color combination for Disney World. I LOVE these shorts (and I’m not even someone who wears shorts very often)! I love them so much I am planning to order several other pairs in different colors. The kimono has so much potential for styling in lots of different ways.
- This women’s sun hat comes in a variety of colors. This hat saved me on a couple of miserably hot days at Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. It has a ponytail hole in the back and a bow at the back to give a bit of a feminine touch.
- These red and white polka dot sunglasses are the perfect shade of red. I bet they would be Minnie Mouse approved! I bought another pair of red and white polka dot sunglasses that I had to return because the red was too dark. It didn’t really seem like Disney red. These sunglasses are so fun with the cat-eye shape. I saw similar polka dot sunglasses at Disney World for more than double the price of these. These are plastic, but so were the ones at Disney. The same company makes a similar pair in black-and-white polka dots that would also be cute at Disney World.
- This two-pack of Mouse ears worked for both the girls and myself. You can buy Mickey ears and Minnie ears at every twist and turn in Disney World. Pretty much every gift shop at all the parks and the resorts carry them. But they are $29.99 each there! This set is a steal! And these mouse ears are such good quality. I usually have an issue with headbands giving me headaches or hurting the areas above my ears. These headbands did not give me any issues. My only regret was that I didn’t order myself my Disney ears from Amazon. I only ordered one set of these so each daughter would have a pair. Once we got to the parks, I realized so many grown women wear them, too. So I wound up paying the $29.99 while there to get a third pair. Lessons learned! Another lesson is that pink Minnie ears would have worked better with some of our Disney outfits than the red and black. Next time, I will take Mouse ears in reds and blacks, but I will also to the collection with Minnie ears Disney pink style, or maybe a set of leopard print Minnie ears (especially cute at Animal Kingdom). I am going to stick with this brand because they are really nice and sturdy.
- If you are feeling more of a ponytail vibe without the Disney ears, you can wear these mouse ears scrunchies. The set comes with four scrunchies in four different sizes. They were perfect for the girls and me to share.
My Girls’ Cute Disney World Outfits and Accessories
- Part of our low-key Disney trip reveal to the girls involved presenting them with these Minnie Mouse inspired fanny packs. I got one in pink and one in red. They held up great through the whole trip and will be ready for the next adventure.
- The girls were super comfy in these Minnie Mouse shorts sets. Bonus is that they should also work as good back-to-school clothes.
- These pink girls sun hats are amazing. They are adjustable and have coverage for the back of the neck. The girls wore them some on those fiercely sunny days at Disney World and again at the resort pool. The hats also come in neutral colors. They will be great to take on lake trips and fishing trips, too.
- These distressed ball caps for girls with ponytail holes in the back are precious! They do seem to run small. The hats barely fit either of my girls so I would suggest them for kids maybe in the 4-6 year range. Then again, my girls’ heads are in the 80-90 percentile! My OBGYN used to joke that they got their big heads from my German-descended husband’s big blockhead. Ha! The hats come in lots of fun colors and styles.
- My girls are dress girls. They prefer dresses to most anything else. This means multiple pairs of girls bike shorts are a must!
- These Minnie inspired sunglasses are adorable! They come in a set of two – one in dark pink and one in light pink. They were so cute on my girls and went along great with my own red polka dot sunglasses. Again, at Disney World you can purchase similar girls’ and ladies’ sunglasses but you are going to pay a lot more money! Another option is this pair of polarized Minnie sunglasses with a neck strap. That is helpful for kids not losing their sunglasses as they get on and off rides at Disney.
- We wound up having to do what what everyone warns you NOT TO DO and and that is wear brand new shoes to Disney. Ugh. It was not my intention. But the week before we left for Disney (which was the last week of school), both girls kept coming home from school complaining their sneakers were getting too tight at the front. I felt I had no choice but to order new ones and hope for the best. I ordered them each a pair of casual cute Grand Court Adidas and a pair of girls Adidas cloud foam tennis shoes. They wound up wearing the Grand Courts the entire time with no problems. Their feet were already used to Grand Courts since they each already had a pair of those they wore regularly. We just needed a bigger size. The Cloud Foams are going to be great for back to school shoes along with the Grand Courts.
- I ordered some cut off denim shorts for girls. We love the look of this pair. However, I will caution that they run big. The size 10 I ordered for my tall 9-year-old were huge on her. She wound up fitting perfectly in the size 6 I had ordered for my petite 7-year-old. Obviously, the size 6 was huge on the 7-year-old. So…super cute but you may need to size down.
- After so much sun during the day at the parks, having a long-sleeve swim shirt is nice for late afternoon/evening swims to give a bit more sun protection. We like these shirts because they coordinate with the majority of swimsuits we already have.
- For the dinner with Cinderella at Cinderella’s Royal Table (the restaurant inside the royal Disney castle at Magic Kingdom), the girls wore princess dresses we already had at home. This Belle costume dress from Amazon is spectacular! The quality is amazing. My girls have used it for three years now, and it is still in perfect shape. My other daughter wore her Elsa costume dress. Any princess dress was acceptable for the royal castle dinner (or just wearing around Magic Kingdom). Several girls were dressed in a Cinderella costume at the dinner. I’m not sure I would have my girls wear their dresses for a day at Disney World though. Those costumes can be full and heavy and hot. We had gone back to our room to freshen up for dinner so my girls just wore their dresses for a few hours at night. There were even full families dressed up in theme. I could kick myself for not asking one family permission to take their photo for the blog. The little girl was in a Cinderella costume, the teenage sister had on a short light blue party dress with some trendy white sneakers to look like a modern day teen Cinderella, the dad had a light blue men’s Prince Charming t-shirt on, and the mom had a “I love Prince Charming” t-shirt in light blue on. This family was precious at the castle!
Other Things for My Husband’s Disney World Packing List
The Hubs got a few additions to his wardrobe to round out his Disney packing list.
- The Hubs loves his men’s sling backpack. This thing has been along with us on so many trips!
- We bought hubs a men’s sun hat similar to the ones that we wore. It has the neck protection on the back that is super important on a fiercely sunny day! They come in multiple colors. We went with gray so it can work with most anything. He also wore it at the pool along with his men’s long sleeve swim shirt which he swears by.
Other Accessories and Items from our Disney Packing Lists
- If you are a night reader and will be sharing a hotel room with your family, this around the neck reading light is wonderful! It is so much better than my previous one which clamped to my pages and always drooped over because it was top-heavy.
- You have no idea how I wanted to kick myself when I got to Disney without this pack of family ponchos I had ordered. For whatever reason, I never put the box in my suitcase. Eight ponchos for $14 versus the $12 for each adult and $10 for each kid poncho that I wound up paying at Disney World. A rain came while we were at Animal Kingdom, and in order to march on with our day uninterrupted, I caved and reluctantly paid the $44 at Disney for four ponchos. Ugh! Do yourself a favor and order these ponchos AND actually put them in your luggage. There is also a four-pack and a 12-pack. I will say the Disney ponchos are pretty good quality and I will keep them stored in my luggage so we will have them to use again and again.
- This lightweight water-resistant backpack was the best for our trip to Disney! It folds into a little pouch when not in use. It comes with two drink holders on the sides and has multiple zipped compartments. Those compartments were very helpful. I used this backpack as my plan carry on and then we took it every single day to the Disney parks. I bought the bright red color not only for Disney but also because we can use for tailgating at our Arkansas Razorback games later. Also, I didn’t want a girly color because I wanted my husband to take turns carrying the backpack at times. I highly recommend this backpack! We were also able to hang our sun hats and our Disney popcorn bucket off the some of the buckled straps. It is a great Disney backpack!
- Here is one thing I didn’t think of until after the fact. It occurred to me as I walking through Hollywood Studios fumbling along for my phone in my bag every few minutes. This waterproof phone lanyard and dry bag case will be on my packing list for any trip from now on. As a blogger, I take far more pictures than the average mom on vacation. This means I am constantly putting my phone up in my bag only to get it right back out again. This waterproof phone lanyard has rave reviews from snorklers and all types of people who need their phones to be kept safe underwater while they take pictures and videos. It seems it would be great to have on water rides at Disney World or just to be able to grab your phone fast for a quick shot. I have one of these in my Amazon cart right now.
- Listen, that My Disney Experience app is awesome for all kinds of reasons. But between using the app and taking photos, you are going to need to be prepared for battery life. We used the phone batter bricks every single day while we were at the parks. Some days, the Hubs had one in his backpack and I had the other one in mine.
- The around the neck fans are AMAZING. I first bought them for the girls for some activities they were doing for school last year. But these bad boys will keep you cool for all kinds of activities – mowing the yard, gardening on a hot day, jogging, and spending days at Disney!
- I always keep two sets of kids swim goggles in my traveling pool bag for the resorts or hotels because my girls are drama queens about water getting in their eyes.
