Today, I’m so excited to share this long overdue post on our girls’ weekend in Savannah! A few years ago, in Southern Living Magazine, when I saw a Savannah itinerary for a Savannah weekend getaway, I knew it was just what my two long-time besties and I needed! I bookmarked the page in the magazine and saved it for over a year until the time was right to plan our own Savannah girls’ trip.
Of course, we weren’t able to match our extended girls weekend in Savannah exactly to the one in the magazine, but we came close! We added a few things of our own. Here, I am going to share with you our Savannah itinerary – where to stay in Savannah, where to eat in Savannah, what to wear in Savannah, and the best things to do in Savannah in three days and four nights! Stock up on ideas ahead of your Savannah Georgia road trip or getaway across the country! Even if you are planning a Savannah Georgia day trip, there are still some ideas here for you!
Girls’ Weekend in Savannah: Where to Stay in Savannah? – The Mansion on Forsyth Park
If you want a true cultural experience during your Savannah weekend getaway, I recommend The Mansion on Forsyth, 100 percent! No doubt, we had the best time at this chic boutique hotel. It is a hotel, restaurant, art gallery, and culinary school all in one! Soon, I will write a separate post on the culinary classes. This hotel might be a slightly higher price point than other nearby hotels, but the price difference is totally worth it.
There are so many offshoots to this hotel – a restaurant here, a little tucked away art and jewelry shop there, a cocktail lounge here, an art hall there, an outdoor courtyard, an upstairs bar, etc. And the entire place is brimming with charm – a marriage of old-world details and modern touches.
Our Savannah Itinerary for a Savannah Girls’ Trip – 3 Full Days, 4 Nights
Best Things to Do in Savannah, GA – Arrival Day, Night 1
- Check into the Mansion on Forsyth upon arrival to Savannah. If you arrive before check-in hours, the hotel staff will hold your bags in the front office.
- Venture out into the Forsyth Park area and enjoy the paradisaical vibes. If the sun isn’t too harsh, take photos in Forsyth Park.
- Stop in Soho South Cafe for salads or an afternoon snack and a cool laid-back atmosphere.
- Do a little shopping in some of the local boutiques full of true southern charm.
- Arrive back at the Mansion on Forsyth to check out your room and freshen up.
- Check in for your evening cooking class at the 700 Kitchen Cooking School right upstairs in The Mansion on Forsyth.
Our Savannah girls’ trip was in July. It was hot outside, and one of us was pregnant. We made sure to allow for rest stops for her. The boutiques not only add a lot of fun to your day but also provide waves of air conditioning. My favorite boutiques from our visit were the Red Clover and One Fish, Two Fish. Oh, and I was fascinated by the Satchel flagship store! In this store, you can actually watch as Satchel goods are brought to life. This store is a hybrid of a workshop and boutique.
Girlfriend Tip #1: Make your reservations for the cooking classes early. They fill up fast! Classes are open to anyone – not only hotel guests. Each night features a different food theme. It’s important that all friends enjoy each element of the girls’ weekend in Savannah. But even your non-cooking friends can kick back with some wine and enjoy the dinner that is served after the class! The fee you pay for the class includes the drinks and dinner.
Best Things to Do in Savannah, GA – Day 1, Night 2
- Have breakfast at the hotel.
- Take a day trip (via Uber) to Tybee Island. Spend several hours exploring South Beach and the adjoining tourist-y region. Enjoy a fresh lemonade at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. Visit some of the tourist shops.
- Take another Uber to the Tybee Lighthouse. Decide whether or not you wish to climb to the top!
- Cross the street a bit and take a stroll along North Beach – altogether a different beach vibe than South Beach. Sit under a pavilion and enjoy a light breeze off the water. Have your picture made on the beach with the lighthouse in the background.
- Finish the Tybee excursion with a late lunch at The Crab Shack.
- Head back to the hotel for a little exploration of the hotel’s many art pieces. Get a little rest and freshen up.
- Skip dinner (or don’t…hey, it’s your trip and you are in the mecca of southern cuisine!) and splurge on dessert-for-dinner at Better Than Sex Desserts.
First, our Uber driver dropped us off at Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. It took around 30 minutes to get from our hotel to the pier. Before leaving the hotel, we stuffed our swimsuits and essentials in a backpack. We could have rented an umbrella and bought towels at one of the many souvenir shops. Rather, we opted to just explore the beach and not lay out or get in the water. I’m not all that much of a sand and water person so this was just fine by me. Around us, there were people on kayaks and families fishing from the pier.
We took another Uber to the Tybee Lighthouse. Two of us were crazy enough to climb the 178 steps. Seriously, I thought I might die a time or two. Be prepared for limited air flow and LOTS of steps! In hindsight, one of those little motorized fans that you can attach to your bag would have been helpful. We really felt we had conquered the world when we made it back down to the bottom still alive in the 95 degree heat! Our preggo friend stayed behind, waiting in the lobby at the bottom of the lighthouse.
At North Beach, we visited with the loveliest couple. Like us, they found refuge from the glaring sun under the pavilion among the serene landscape. This beach is much more serene and relaxing than South Beach – the kind of beach for your summer reading! If I take another girls’ weekend to Savannah, I think I would spend more time on North Beach.
It had been highly recommended to us to have lunch at The Crab Shack. Everyone from friends back home to the hotel staff to our Uber driver recommended this place. The uniqueness of this waterfront spot – with trees coming through the wooden deck floor and boats floating along the property – gives a certain swamp-y vibe. With menu options from chili cheese nachos to bbq to crab cakes, the food matches the laid-back nature of the restaurant.
Girlfriend Tip #1: Our hotel reservations included a certain amount of breakfast credit. If your reservations also include this, you might as well use it! The breakfast is good, and the restaurant is classy.
Girlfriend Tip #2: Do not attempt to climb the lighthouse if you cannot handle immense heat, many steps, or enclosed spaces! Even some who are somewhat fit struggle to climb the lighthouse in the heat.
Best Things to Do in Savannah, GA – Day 2, Night 3
- Have breakfast at the hotel.
- Catch a historic on/off trolley tour on Old Savannah Tours and learn the history of Savannah.
- Hop off at Massie Heritage Center and learn about some of the early academic efforts, town development, and architecture of Savannah.
- Continue the trolley tour down into the City Market area, stopping for a bite of pie at Pie Society and shopping at the River Street Market area. Grab a late lunch at Cafe at City Market and people watch to your heart’s content. If you and your gal pals are so inclined on this girls’ weekend in Savannah, you might want to reserve a beer pedal tour on one of Savannah’s bicycle pub crawl tours.
- Head back to the hotel to rest a bit before heading out for dinner.
- Grab dinner at Six Pence Pub. The salmon is wonderful! There are a number of other nearby restaurants, as well.
- Meet up with Blue Orb Tours in Wright Square to start a sunset ghost tour of historic Savannah.
- Recap your Savannah girls’ trip (thus far) over cocktails and live music in the upstairs lounge at the hotel.
Girlfriend Tip #1: Be sure to reserve your ghost tour in advance. Also, you may check in with the front desk at the hotel to see if you can pay for your trolley tour there.
Girlfriend Tip #2: Educators get a discount to the Massie Heritage Center. Take your school ID. If you work in education, you will likely be highly interested in the academic exhibits featured here.
Best Things to Do in Savannah, GA – Day 3, Night 4
- Order in a light breakfast via room service for a lazy morning.
- Enjoy spa services at the luxury spa at the Mansion on Forsyth.
- Take in a late lunch at The Maple Street Biscuit Company (open until 2 p.m.),
- Venture out for an afternoon of art galleries and museums. Take an Uber to Jepson Museum, Telfair Center, and Owens-Thomas House. If time allows, check out the SCAD Museum (Savannah College of Art and Design Museum) as well.
- Enjoy a late dinner at The Old Pink House. (This historic restaurant closed in December of 2018 after an upstairs fire in the ballroom. It re-opened in the spring of 2019.) Definitely, order the key lime pie for dessert.
The spa services are pricey but lush. My friends went for massages in addition to facials and pedicures. These are practically required activities for a girls’ weekend in Savannah! The spa is a bustling place with people coming and going.
The museums are must-see experiences when on a Savannah weekend getaway. If you are one who grows weary after one museum, you might want to consider breaking up the museums with lunch in between.
Girlfriend Tip #1: One ticket buys admission to all three museums.
Girlfriend Tip #2: Both the spa at the Mansion on Forsyth and The Old Pink House require reservations. Make your reservations as far in advance as possible.
Girlfriend Tip #3: Check out other fine dining options such as Alligator Soul (open on Saturdays and Sundays; must have reservation or sit at bar area on a first come-first serve basis).
Best Things to Do in Savannah, GA – Departure Day
- Have a final breakfast at the hotel. You can’t go wrong with an omelette and roasted potatoes.
- If time allows, enjoy an early morning stroll through Forsyth Park.
- If departure time is not until late, consider checking luggage at front desk and taking an Uber to the River Street area for more exploring.
Girlfriend Tip #1: Start planning your next Savannah weekend getaway while you are still there – while everything is still fresh on your mind!
What To Wear in Savannah, GA – 3-Day Itinerary
If you are following a similar schedule to ours, you will need clothes for the arrival day, for three full days, and for departure day. Also, you will need more than one outfit on some of those days. I would suggest eight outfits – one outfit for each day plus two-three nice outfits to change into for some of the dinner events. Again, our trip was during July, and it was HOT. Definitely, it was necessary to freshen up and change outfits before dinner. Of course, if you are visiting Savannah in spring, fall or winter, this might not be the case.
Packing suggestions for your girls’ trip to Savannah
- 4 casual t-shirt dresses or cotton maxi dresses (one for the arrival and departure days, another for the cooking class, and one for the day on the trolley) – all worn with the same pair of Birkenstocks
- Beach/leisure attire for the day on Tybee Island (I wore a the red gingham dress and my Birks because I like dresses, but in hindsight, shorts and a tank would have been a good choice.) – worn with athletic sandals
- 1 dressy romper or dress for the dinner at The Old Pink House – worn with wedges or heels
- 2 nice pairs of shorts/pants and 2 tops for the day at the art museums and one night out – worn with Birkenstocks
- Swimsuit and cover up – worn with flip flops
- Accessories for the outfits (floppy hat, bags, jewelry)
- PJs
- Undies
- Sunscreen
And, there you have it! I hope you enjoyed my Savannah itinerary and will find it helpful for planning your own Savannah girls’ trip! Would you add anything else to this Savannah itinerary?

Marisa
Hi! Roughly how much was it to Uber to and from Tybee from Savannah? I’m going on a girls trip in a few weeks and we are wondering if we should rent a car or not. Thanks!
The Gifted Gabber
Oh, my Marisa. I’m so sorry that I just now saw your comment. Your trip is probably over by now! I want to say our Uber was in the $30 ballpark then (a few years ago). Gas is much higher now so I was thinking it would be quite a bit more now. I just looked on the Uber website and they have a price estimator tool on there. It is showing me a $34-40 estimate for Forsyth Park, Savannah to the Tybee Island pier. I hope you enjoy(ed) your trip!
Ashley
THANK YOU!! My almost 70 year old mother and I are having a mother/daughter birthday trip and your itinerary is perfect!! That’s exactly what we want to do!
