A Rescheduled Trip
For over two years, the Hubs and I kept a secret from the kiddos. We were originally going to surprise kids with a Disney trip in late May, 2020. Of course, the pandemic had other plans for us since Disney shut down that summer much like the rest of the world.
So for the last two years, the Hubs and I knew we wanted to reschedule. In early April of this year (exactly two months before our trip), I started planning our first time trip to Disney World. I would definitely recommend getting an earlier start than this! Some of our planning was rushed because I waited too long.
Disney Trip Reveal Lunch to Surprise Kids with Disney Trip
Over the years, I’ve seen Disney trip reveal ideas on Facebook of friends loading kids into their car as though they are going for a normal outing and then surprising them with a Disney trip reveal in the car on camera.
A week before our Disney World trip, I saw some cute Mickey and Minnie paper plates, napkins, and cups at my local Dollar General. I decided to use them in a super simple Disney trip reveal. Since our flight from Little Rock to Orlando was not going to be until mid afternoon, I knew we would be able to eat lunch at home on departure day. So I decided to make the girls a simple PB&J sandwich served on the Mickey paper goods and surprise them over lunch soon before we headed for the airport.
Meanwhile, I already had all the bags packed and ready to go. And let me just say – it is tough secretly getting luggage packed for astute little girls who question my every move! I nearly got busted several times as I slipped swimsuits from their dresser drawers or they noticed sneakers missing from their shoe bins, etc.
I had ordered a few Disney trip gifts – Minnie fanny packs filled with a few travel essentials and snacks, Minnie sunglasses, and Minnie ears for our trip.
For the Disney trip reveal, I pulled them from the luggage and set them at each girl’s place setting.
When the girls came into the kitchen and saw the place settings, the lightbulbs were already spinning in their heads. No need to explain how ecstatic they were when they learned they were leaving in two hours for a week trip to Disney World! I’ve never seen them eat so fast!
Flying from Little Rock to Orlando on Allegiant
Since Orlando is a 14 hour drive from Little Rock, it was a “we are flying from Little Rock to Orlando” kind of thing for us. This gal doesn’t do road trips all that well! Luckily, the Allegiant flights from Little Rock to Orlando are quite affordable. In fact, I just checked for round trips from Little Rock to Orlando for this upcoming summer and the flights are currently $100 a person! That is cheaper than what I paid because I waited a little too late to book our flights.
We had our flights scheduled for around 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Since I had all of our suitcases packed and the Hubs had already taken care of any “close up the house” tasks, we were pretty much ready to leave right after our Disney reveal lunch.
The girls proudly wore their mouse ears all through the airport in Little Rock and in Orlando. In Orlando, the Mickey ears are not unusual by any means. But the girls got lots of comments from other travelers in the Little Rock airport – wishing them a fun time on their Disney adventure!
Little One took a special bookmark her first-grade teacher had made for her at the end of the year on the trip as a Flat Stanley with teacher type of thing. She was so proud to carry that bookmark around and wanted her picture made with it at the Orlando Airport!
Taking an Uber from the Orlando Sanford International Airport to the Disney Resort
Our Uber ride from the Orlando airport to our Disney hotel was nearly $100 in early evening traffic. The Uber rates were all quite high at that time of day. It was around a 45 minute ride to get to the Disney Caribbean Beach Resort where we were staying. Our driver was such a nice guy.
The Disney reveal and the travel to Disney was just too much for Little One! Not normally one for napping, she fell asleep in the Uber.
When getting ready for bed that night at our Disney resort, she realized she couldn’t find her Flat Stanley teacher bookmark. We think she left it in the Uber car. She was so sad and upset which was not a great way to start our first night at Disney World. But I texted her sweet teacher and she made her another bookmark later on. All was right with the world once more!
