This sloppy Joe sliders recipe is based of the nostalgic sandwich I grew up eating in the 1980s! Although my family is not a huge fan of sloppy Joes, I somehow managed to win them over with these. You can make Hawaiian roll sloppy Joe sliders, or you can choose any other type of slider roll, as we did here with whole wheat rolls. Also, you can make the sloppy Joe sliders with Manwich or with your own homemade sauce. And this is a fabulous recipe for using up sloppy Joe leftovers!

I’ve taken these sloppy Joe rolls to several parties now, and they are well received – at least by the sloppy Joe fans!
Ingredients
- Ground beef
- Manwich (or a homemade sloppy Joe sauce)
- 12 pull-apart dinner rolls or slider buns
- Cheddar cheese, shredded
- Unsalted butter, melted
- Dried or fresh chopped parsley
- Minced garlic
- Onion powder
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Crispy fried onions (such as French’s brand)
Making the Sloppy Joe Filling
Obviously, using Manwich is a quick choice for this recipe. All you need is the Manwich and the ground beef to come up with a super fast filling for these sloppy Joe sliders. If you are like me and keep a steady supply of cooked ground beef stocked up in the freezer, this recipe will go even faster for you! But, if your family prefers a homemade filling (like mine does), you can always prepare a homemade sloppy Joe recipe and forego the Manwich.
Assembling Sloppy Joe Sliders
First, I preheat the oven to 375°F.
In a skillet, I brown the hamburger meat and drain off the excess grease. The meat is returned to the skillet and combined with the Manwich filling (or homemade filling ingredients if I am going that route).
While the meat is browning, I slice a package of slider rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom half in an 9×13 rimmed baking dish which is lined with foil or parchment paper.
Once the meat is ready, I spread it over the roll bottoms in the pan followed by the shredded cheese.

I add the top half of the rolls to the pan, creating 12 mini sandwiches.
I melt the butter and whisk it with the seasonings and parsley before brushing the butter sauce over the top set of rolls, using a basting brush or a spoon.

For a finishing touch, I sprinkle on the French onions across the top of the buttered rolls.

I cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the sliders are heated through. If desired, you can remove the foil and pop the pan back into the oven for another 2-5 minutes to brown the top bread piece just a bit.
Once done, let cool for a few minutes before slicing into individual sliders and serving. These easy sloppy Joe sliders are perfect for a quick and easy lunch or dinner and are sure to be a hit at any party!

Tips for Storing Sloppy Joe Sliders with Manwich
- Refrigeration:
- Store any leftover sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Consume within 2-3 days for optimal freshness.
- Freezing:
- You can freeze assembled but unbaked sliders for future use.
- Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and label with the date.
- To reheat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and bake as instructed.
- Microwaving:
- When reheating, consider using a microwave for smaller portions to avoid overcooking.
- Fresh Toppings:
- Add fresh parsley or sliced green onions for a pop of color.
- Rather than French fried onions, you can add Everything Bagel Seasoning instead for a touch of crunch and texture.
More Tips
- The leaner your ground beef, the less fat you’ll have to drain. I used a 90/10 super lean beef.
- You can use whatever variety of well-melting cheese that you prefer. I recommend shredding your own from a block for the meltiest, smoothest texture.
- I used whole wheat dinner rolls in these images, but these sliders taste great with Hawaiian rolls or slider buns too.
- Serve with french fries, tater tots, chips, or your other favorite sides for a delicious and filling meal, or serve alone as a mouthwatering appetizer!

Easy Sloppy Joe Sliders with Manwich Recipe
Ingredients
- 12 Hawaiian rolls or other type of slider rolls
- 1 lb ground beef
- 15.5 oz Manwich or homemade sloppy Joe sauce
- 2 cups Cheddar shredded
- 4 tbsp Unsalted butter melted
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- ½ tsp Onion powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 1 tbsp Parsley fresh or dried
- 1 cup Fried onions French's brand is what we use
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (175°C).
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking apart into crumbles, until fully-cooked. Drain excess fat, if needed.
- Return the cooked beef crumbles to the skillet and stir in 15 ounces of Manwich (or equivalent of homemade sloppy Joe sauce) until fully combined. Remove from heat.
- On a foil-rimmed sheet pan, cut the slider buns in half, horizontally, keeping the bottom buns attached and the top buns attached (if possible).
- Layer each bun evenly with the meat sauce. Spread the cheese across the meat evenly.
- Place the other half of the buns on top, creating sandwich sliders.
- In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and parsley.
- Using a basting brush or spoon, spread the butter & herb mixture generously over the tops of the dinner rolls or buns.
- Optionally, sprinkle French onions over the sliders for added texture and flavor.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the sliders are heated through and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. You may need to gently run a knife through the sandwiches – at the natural divisions of the rolls – to ensure the sliders will pull apart easily.
