Okay, so maybe these aren’t exactly love bug juice boxes. Maybe, love bug juice barrels might be a better name? Either way, these love bug juices are the perfect juices for a kid’s Valentine’s Day party! For the sake of awkwardness, I’m calling this kids’ Valentine’s idea  love bug juice boxes.

Sometimes, it takes the quietness of home on a sick day to get your creative juices flowing. Earlier this week, my oldest appeared to be sick while we were getting ready for school/work. After going through the process of securing a sub for my classroom, said child seemed to make a dramatic recovery in record time. Do kids really do fake outs at five-years-old?!

Supplies for Love Bug Juice Boxes

Anyhoo…while we were home, I dug around in my craft box and in my Valentine’s day decor box. There were some things – pipe cleaner, pom poms, a huge bag of heart foam stickers, wiggly eyes, etc. – that I thought could make a fun Valentine’s Day craft project. I just wasn’t sure exactly what. I had a lot of leftover craft supplies from our Trolls birthday party. After finding some leftover Hug juices in the pantry from a recent gathering, I decided to try to make them into love bug juices for Valentine’s Day. Our girls only really get to drink juices at parties and other special occasions. Therefore, I knew they would be excited we were going to use these little juices as treats. The great thing about these Hug juices is they are very budget-friendly (a 20-count for $3). Also, each juice contain only 10 calories with reduced sugar. 

Crafting the Love Bug Juice Boxes

After a little trial and error and some serious hot glue burns to six of my fingers, my little helper and I had produced enough love bug juices for both her and her little sister’s classes for their Valentine’s Day parties. This was a fun Valentine’s Day craft to do with a five-year-old. Obviously, there were things she couldn’t and shouldn’t do…did I mention my hot glue burns?! Yowzers! 

So I put her in charge of designing each love bug. All the love bug juice boxes are different in some kind of way. Scooter Britches was in charge of choosing the eyes, the nose, the antennas, the heart feet, and the wings for each juice box. You would have thought the girl was working with paper fashion dolls. She had so much fun designing these love bug juices and determining which juice was going to go to which friend.

“Julianna likes purple so she is going to get this one with the purple wings.”

“Riley likes red so she is going to get the one with the red glittery heart feet.”

That’s the thing I love about Valentine’s Day for little kids. I know Valentine’s Day gets a bad wrap once people are old enough to date. But little kids celebrate everybody, and I just love that!

She also did all the curling of the antennas by winding the piper cleaners (two at a time) around a pen and gently sliding them off.

Since I was simply using leftover juices, not all of our juices are red and pink. Some are blue, some are purple, and some are green. Also, I used leftover felt flowers from Hobby Lobby (which I had originally bought for crafting for The Trolls party) to make the wings.  Therefore, some of the wings are yellow, blue, orange, etc. I went ahead and worked with what I had. I really didn’t want to go and spend money for a craft project when I already had so much stuff in my box.

I’m not the craftiest person in the world so this project probably took me a little longer than it should have. All in all, I think we spent about three hours on it. But crafting these love bug juices boxes was a good way to spend a sick day with a sick (maybe?) child.

Obviously, these juices will need to be modified before a child drinks the juice. The pipe cleaners are scratchy. A teacher or parent would need to pull the antennas off before a child drinks the love bug juice.
