Giving plants for gifts has become my go to gifting method over the last 4-5 years! Gifting plants is a simple, heartfelt way to brighten someone’s day. Whether it’s a basket of spring gardening supplies, a blooming houseplant, or a bundle of herbs from your vegetable garden, you can make plant gifts feel personal, thoughtful, and full of life. Today, I’m showing some plant gifts I put together this spring along with some garden gift tags I whipped together. Add a fun touch to your own plant gifts with our free downloadable plant gift tags!

These printable tags are designed to pair perfectly with any gift for plant lovers—whether you’re giving a starter tomato plant, a pot of daisies, or a garden-themed care package. Here’s how to download, print, and use them—and a few fun ideas for what to give.
Why Use Plant Gift Tags?
Plant tags aren’t just decorative. They add context, personality, and warmth. A good tag can say without saying:
- “I thought of you when I picked this.”
- “Enjoy this bloom—just like you, it’s growing strong.”
- “Here’s a little green joy from my garden to yours.”
They also help you label what you’re gifting. Not everyone knows what lemon balm or coleus looks like at first glance. A tag can clear that up and offer a quick care tip or a message that makes someone smile.

What’s Included in the Free Download?
The downloadable PDF includes:
- 14 different plant-themed tag designs
- A mix of messages like “You Always Succ-seed In What You Do,” “Thanks a Bunch,” “Life Would Succ Without You,” and “You Prickle My Fancy”
- Space to add your name on most tags.
- Soft botanical illustrations with clean, modern fonts
They’re sized to fit gift bags, plant pots, baskets, or wrapped bundles.

How to Print and Use Your Gift Tags
Printing your plant gift tags is easy. Here’s how:
1. Download the PDF
Print our free downloadable plant gift tags! It’s a quick, free PDF file—no email signup required.
2. Choose Your Paper
For best results, print on cardstock. A white cardstock will keep the colors vibrant and the tags sturdy enough to hang or attach.
3. Print and Cut
Use a color printer and set it to high-quality print mode. Cut along the lines with scissors or a paper trimmer. If you don’t have a color printer, you can sent the PDFs to a place like Office Depot or a local printer for printing. I’ve used our local Office Depot regularly to print my color printables. We also have a new locally-owned print shop in town that I’m excited to try!
4. Add a Hole and String
Punch a hole in the top of each tag. Use natural jute twine, baker’s string, or a colorful ribbon to attach to your gift. No ribbon? Just tape or tuck in!
5. Personalize If You Want
Some tags have blank space so you can add your name or the plant name.

Gift Ideas for Gardeners and Plant Lovers
These tags work for any season, but spring is especially full of gifting opportunities. I buy the majority of my plant basket items from Dollar General when they are having a sale! I got most of the items here on a 50-75% off clearance – a steal – during the summer. I saved what I could for the following season to use in these spring plant gift baskets. Without the sale, each basket would have cost me around $10. With the sale, I think most of the baskets probably totaled around $5. The pots with fresh herbs – which I purchased at Lowe’s – cost a little more than the others.
From Easter baskets to “just because” porch drop-offs, here are some plant gift ideas to pair with your tags:
Spring Gardening Basket
Fill a small basket with:
- A few packets of flower or vegetable seeds
- Gardening gloves
- A trowel or mini spade
- A small potted plant or succulent
Add a tag that says “A little dirt never hurt!”
Flowering Plant in a Pot
Pick something seasonal—geraniums, daisies, or lavender. Wrap the pot in kraft paper or burlap and tie with ribbon. Use a tag like “Stop and smell the flowers.”

Herb Starter Set
Pot up mint, basil, or rosemary in small terracotta pots. Gift as a trio or single with a tag that says “Mojito master at work.” That makes a fun house-warming gift or summer gift while a “Thanks a bunch!” tag is a fun addition for a thank you plant gift.
Vegetable Garden Bundle
Gather seedlings like cherry tomatoes, peppers, or zucchini, and include some plant markers and seed packets. A tag with “Gardening therapy time is here” ties it all together.
“Just Because” Porch Drop-Offs
No special occasion is needed for just because gifts! Drop off a small plant with a sweet tag like “Soil mates” or “You always seed the best in life.” These are great just because gifts for neighbors, coworkers, or friends going through a rough week.

Tips for Using Our Printable Plant Gift Tags
- Write a note on the back – You won’t be able to fit much, but even a couple words adds a special touch!
- Include care instructions – I like to do this if I’m gifting a specific plant – so my recipient knows the name of the plant and how to care for it.
- Make it a kit – Add a watering can, bag of soil, or mini plant food to make a complete gift package.
- Use upcycled materials – I sometimes reuse pots, baskets, or boxes I already have.
