If your family and friends enjoy a good football party, this football field dip makes for the perfect football party food! With simple ingredients, you can turn a typical party dip into a creative football field food!

Ingredients
- Sour cream
- Cream cheese
- Taco seasoning
- Shredded cheese
- Salsa
- Green onions
- Shredded lettuce
- Bell peppers or tomatoes (2 different colors)
- Chips and crackers for dipping
How to Make Football Field Dip
Making the dip is simple. You simply mix the sour cream, cream cheese, and the taco seasoning together in a large bowl. Spread the creamy mixture into a rectangle rimmed pan. Spread the salsa and the green onions across the entire pan, over the cream cheese.
Next, add the shredded cheese.
The final steps are purely for decoration. When adding the shredded lettuce next, I leave the two ends exposed about two inches with only shredded cheese showing to act as the “end zones” of the football field. Next, I add some extra sour cream to a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with a corner snipped off (what I usually use), and I pipe out the yard lines on top of the lettuce.
Finally, I add some chopped (uniform in size) pieces of tomatoes – two slightly different colors of red. These pieces are the “football players” on the field. I put one color on one side and another color on the other side – to resemble two different teams of players.
If you can make it work to match the colors of the actual teams of your big game, that would be even better! For example, for our upcoming Super Bowl of the Kansas City Chiefs (Go, Chiefs!) and the Philadelphia Eagles, I intend to use red peppers and dark green peppers for the two “teams.”
Tips for Making Football Field Party Dip
- I recommend using a 9×12 so the dip is at a thin layer – to go further when feeding a group. If you use a smaller rectangular platter, you will have a deeper dip – which may be fine for your needs, depending on how many you wish to feed.
- In my photos, I used two different color tomatoes for the players. But I recommend using two “teams” with more color contrast. For example, you can use a yellow bell pepper to cut into pieces to represent one team. For the other team, you can use orange or red bell peppers.
- Serve this football dip with a variety of dippers – tortilla chips, corn chips like Fritos Scoops, and sturdy bite-sized crackers.
- Optional: to turn this six-layer football field dip into a 7 layer football field dip, you can spread a layer of slightly warmed refried beans under the sour cream layer. This will make the dip a bit more hearty and stretch it even further.

- Transfer the remaining sour cream to a piping bag (or to a Ziploc with a small corner snipped off) and pipe out six "yard lines" of sour cream on top of the lettuce.
- Add 7 small squares of red peppers to one "side" of the field, as pictures in the images. Add 7 small squares of the other color pepper or the slightly different colored red tomatoes to the other "side" of the field. - Keep chilled until ready to serve, mindful the lettuce may brown the longer it sets out.
- Serve with tortilla chips or crackers.
