Find Inspiration for Single Celebrations or Double Celebrations

Taco ‘Bout a Baby Shower (Or Taco ‘Bout Some Babies) – Fiesta Baby Shower
A taco theme baby shower can be celebrated year round though it makes for a super cute Cinco de Mayo baby shower.
At my school, some of my coworkers recently hosted a Fiesta baby shower on Cinco de Mayo. It was a drop-in during your lunch period type of shower. We were celebrating one mommy-to-be rather than multiple mamas. But I got to thinking there was no reason a taco theme baby shower wouldn’t be perfect for multiple babies – regardless of gender. It is a perfect single or joint baby shower theme!
Food for a Taco Baby Shower
Ummm…this one is pretty much a no brainer. You need tacos to pull off this taco baby shower! A taco bar is the way to go. Set up all the ingredients and let people create their own tacos or nachos. I suggest having multiple hostesses for this type of shower since the cost of food has increased. You will need someone responsible for meat, another person responsible for the veggies, another person getting the cheese, another person getting the chips and tortillas, etc.
Cactus Cupcake Cake
For our taco theme baby shower at work, the hostesses made the cutest cactus cupcake cake by simply arranging green cupcakes into the shape of a cactus. It required no prep work aside from ordering cupcakes with green frosting.
Decor for a Taco ‘Bout a Baby Shower
The decor is so colorful and fun! The hostesses borrowed some of my global decor that I keep in my English as a Second Language classroom (much of it still hoarded from my Spanish-teaching days). I founds some very similar sets of decor to what was used at the shower. This “Taco About a Baby” bunting and coordinating decorations is fun! This “Taco TWOsday” bunting with decorations is fun IF you are celebrating twins or multiple babies on a Tuesday. I think it is generally used for two-year-old birthday parties, but I think it could definitely work for a double baby shower held on a Tuesday!
You might need more colorful discs if you have a super large space to decorate.
The ladies borrowed some of my tiny sombreros that I bought for party decorations years ago. These are cute when used moderately, but you have to be careful to not go overboard with sombreros. It can become tacky with an explosion of sombreros and an impression of cultural misunderstanding, as well. I definitely lean away from the use of fake mustaches, plastic maracas, etc. at my parties.
If you don’t have any woven textures like a serape blanket or a serape table runner, you could always toss in sold color tablecloths and linens. The bright colors will definitely add a punch to your fiesta baby shower!

Safari Baby Shower
A safari baby shower is the way to go if you need to celebrate multiple little babes at once. It works so well regardless of genders of the babies.
I co-hosted a safari baby shower for my sister-in-law several years back. We were celebrating my nephew. But this party has no limitations making it perfect for celebrating 2 or 20 babies at once which makes it a great double baby shower theme!
Food for a Safari Baby Shower
For food, we stuck to traditional baby shower foods – finger sandwiches, cold dips, fruit platters. However, you could go the extra mile and make all of your food animal themed! Or you can keep the foods simple but serve it on these cute safari paper plates and paper goods.
One of the co-hostesses ordered the cute giraffe cake from her local Kroger’s bakery.
Decor for a Safari Shower
Animal art and animal trinkets that can also be presented as gifts for the baby nursery work well, but only plan for this if you know the expecting parents are welcoming of decorations for the baby nursery. I intentionally planned a safari themed baby shower because I knew my sister-in-law was planning on an animal safari nursery.
One of the co-hosts ordered a bunting with the baby’s name. We hung that on the wall and strung some of his new onesies (gifts from some of the other co-hosts) under it for a cute wall display.
Plastic animal print tablecloths or pieces of animal print fabrics from the fabric store can work as table runners for a little extra safari vibe. I think these safari table signs are absolutely adorable! These animal streamers would look great trailing down a blank wall behind a food or gift table. And these animal print pennants will also add some pizzazz to the party area! Not to go overboard with signs, but if you had enough blank space in your party area, you could also add this “Let’s Go Wild” bunting.
One of the hostesses also made the adorable giraffe diaper cake. So cute!

Book Theme Baby Shower
Of course, a group of school teachers planned a book theme baby shower in the school library! What a perfect fit for a group of educators to kick in a love for reading in the baby early on!
A book baby shower can go several different ways. I have attended several “Bring a Book” baby shower in which the guests bring a book to the baby shower as their primary gift. I feel that type of celebration is best suited when celebrating someone’s second or third child. A mom of a first baby will need many basic supplies for gifts (diapers, outfits, etc.) while a mom of a second baby might be well stocked already. With this type if shower, it is encouraged for the guests to write a sweet message to the baby inside the book.
That being said, there are other variations of a book theme baby shower. In one other method, the hostesses choose their favorite children’s books to display along with a coordinating dish on the food table. I love this shower theme! It is so whimsical and fun! In fact, my daughter’s second birthday party was a library birthday party with a very similar concept!
If you are hosting the event, I suggest you try to find the books at your local library (or school library if you are an elementary teacher). If you wind up having to buy any books, you should use this as your card and write a sweet message to mama and baby on the inside of the book. Also, board books and hard-back books work best for propping up on the table. Paperbacks can work, but some of them are rather flimsy.
Decor for a Book Baby Shower
For this shower, the food table and books will be a lot of your decoration – kind of the star of the party. You could add some balloon clusters or a gender-neutral balloon arch for a fun photo backdrop if you wanted. If you are celebrating boys, this blue balloon arch is pretty and this rose gold pink balloon arch is perfect for a pink girl’s shower!
For the book baby shower my friend co-hosted, one of the star attractions was this awesome Chicka Boom Boom diaper cake made by my friend’s daughter! Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault, is always a fun book to incorporate into baby showers!
Food for a Book Theme Baby Shower
The food for a baby book party is going to vary depending on the books selected to feature in the party. I suggest each hostess choose one or two books to make a matching food dish for. For The Very Hungry Caterpillar book, you can serve a caterpillar cupcake cake, a fruit platter shaped into a caterpillar, a sandwich stack turned horizontal shaped into a caterpillar (as you see in the pictures), etc. See more about pairing children’s books with food in the section below.
Selecting Children’s Books and Pairing Party Food with Children’s Books
In order to plan a party like this one – where the hostesses match foods to selected children’s books about food, you need to plan ahead. Select picture books about food that will allow for pairing easy foods. Here are some favorites children’s books about fruit and other foods. Pink and Blue Color Scheme Baby Shower
I’m not going to spend much time explaining this theme as it is pretty self-explanatory and an idea probably as old as baby showers themselves. If you find yourself planning for a baby shower with a boy AND a girl, you can simply deck out half the food and decorations in pink and the other half in blue. Easy peasy.
Check out my collection of pink baby shower foods and blue baby shower ideas (linked in the list at the bottom of this post) to help you with this endeavor for your double baby shower planning. You can easily have your cake baker divide the frosting on a cake as you see below in my own triple baby shower (two girls and one boy) at work several years ago – one half pink and the other half blue.
In a second double baby shower I had with my husband’s cousin, there were blue cupcakes and decorations and hot pink cupcakes and decorations with contrasting patterns to round out the color block baby shower theme. So simple yet so cute!
Tie Dye Baby Shower
Last but not least, I want to mention another super cute baby shower that my friends hosted for us with my first born. This was several years ago, as I mentioned. But this theme is just as cute and modern today. A tie dye baby shower is perfect for celebrating one baby, multiple babies of the same gender, or multiple babies of different genders.
Just go crazy with tie dyed fabrics and touches throughout the party! You can order a cake or cupcakes with marbled colorful icing.
As I said, this shower was from several years ago so my pictures aren’t the best. But I promise, a tie dye baby shower theme is just as much alive and fun today as it was then!
