Ready to take a dip into fall? Today, we’re talking about this delicious cream cheese caramel apple dip with peanuts and apple slices. This sweet dip has all the deliciousness of eating a caramel apple but without the mess!
This dip always gets so many rave reviews! I love serving it for fall parties and work potlucks! Can you tell I’ve been on an apple kick? Two apple recipes in two weeks!
Ingredients
- Cream cheese
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla
- Caramel sauce
- Peanuts and pecans, chopped (Or you can use just one or the other.)
- Sliced apples for dipping (I like to include both red and green for color and flavor variety.)
Fresh Caramel Sauce or Bottled Caramel Sauce?
Some bakers are dead set on caramel sauce when baking. I would agree that nothing quite beats the freshness of homemade caramel sauce. However, there are many high-quality store-bought caramel sauces out there these days.
I prefer to use Torani caramel sauce as it is found easily at most stores where I shop – Walmart and Target. When I happen by Trader Joe’s (not that often since it isn’t super close to my house), I like to pick up the Trader Jacques’ Fleur de Sel Caramel Sauce.
If you already have a favorite brand of caramel sauce, chances are it will work great in this recipe!
Making Cream Cheese Caramel Apple Dip with Peanuts
The only thing standing between you and this sweet caramel apple dip is a mixing bowl!
To begin, add the two bricks of cream cheese, the powdered sugar, and the vanilla to a mixing bowl. Mix until smooth. Once smooth, add the cream cheese layer to the bottom of pretty serving dish with rimmed edges.
Next, add an even layer of caramel sauce on top, ensuring all areas of the cream cheese are covered.
Finally, pour on a generous layer of chopped peanuts and pecans or just one or the other!
Tips for Caramel Apple Dip with Peanuts
- If making your cream cheese caramel apple dip ahead of time, simply prepare the layers in a serving bowl and refrigerate. This dip is good for 1-2 days in the fridge.
- If your caramel sauce does not pour easily, you may want to heat it for 15-20 seconds in a microwavable dish for easier pouring/spreading.
- Wait until serving time to slice the apples for best presentation. If you must slice the apples in advance, soak them in lemon juice to try to prevent browning. (But this isn’t always a fool-proof method – so, again, freshly sliced apples may work best.)
- Even if slicing the apples just before serving, you may still want to roll them in a shallow dish of lemon juice so as to prevent browning during the party – if they last that long!
- Use a variety of apples for dipping. This adds additional color and flavor to this dessert dip!
Granny Smith apples are great for adding a sour contrast to the sweet dip. - Add vanilla wafers or sturdy graham crackers as an extra type of dipper, if desired.
- Leftovers need to be refrigerated.
