If you are trying to find a chocolate cream pie recipe for your family, this Jello chocolate pudding pie is the one. It couldn’t be much more simple, and it pleases every kid I’ve ever fed it to. Why? Because kids love pudding, and this Cool Whip chocolate pie is made of chocolate pudding!
Ingredients
- Instant chocolate pudding (2)
- Milk
- Cool Whip
- Pie Crust of choice (Purchased pie crust, homemade pie crust, graham cracker crust)
- Mini chocolate chips (for garnish)
There are more chocolate pie recipes out there than clouds in the sky. Some are chocolate cream pies. Others are traditional chocolate merengue pies. Many are delicious. However, some of the pies tend to have a strong and/or bitter chocolate flavoring or an espresso taste to it. Kids are often finicky when the chocolate pie comes out with a sharper taste than they are used to with their everyday chocolate.
Bring it this easy Jello chocolate pudding pie! When all five of the little children in my family sing the praises of this pie, you know it’s good because I have some PICKY children and nieces and nephews! Since kids tend to love chocolate pudding, this chocolate pudding pie gives them no surprises.
What Type of Crust for Jello Chocolate Pudding Pie?
I bake a regular Pillsbury pie shell ahead of starting on the chocolate pudding filling for this chocolate cream pie. The shell takes about 12 minutes or so to bake, but then I allow for cooling time. The shell needs to be cooked before the filling is poured in.
Sometimes, I use a ready-to-go graham cracker pie crust for this pie. Other times, I make my own graham cracker pie crust – like you see in the images for this post. More times than not, I make my own graham cracker crust. I find it makes such a difference in the taste and texture of a pie.
If you are feeling a double-chocolate vibe, you might pair the Jello chocolate cream pie filling with an Oreo pie crust. There are no rules for this Jello pudding pie!
