If you are a lover of peanut butter and chocolate combinations, then today is the day you give these chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips a try! These thin cookies rival any gourmet stand cookies!
I’ll admit that many peanut butter chocolate desserts are simply too rich for my liking. But the Hubs and my oldest daughter are huge fans of anything with peanut butter and chocolate!

The Flavors of Chocolate and Peanut Butter Together
Chocolate and peanut butter are a delightful pair when it comes to flavor combinations. The heavy chocolate complements the rich taste of peanut butter. No doubt, the chocolate and peanut butter history shows why there are so many dessert varieties out there with this combination!
Making Chocolate Cookies with Peanut Butter Chips
Typically, young kids have fun helping with these peanut butter chocolate cookies. Since these are simple roll and drop cookies, young bakers can help and you don’t have to fear too much of the cookies getting too much out of form or anything like that.
You will prepare this recipe as you would most other drop and roll cookie recipes.
You will start with mixing melted butter and sugar. Next, add the egg and vanilla. (See our recipe card below for exact measurements.)
Then, in a second mixing bowl, add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix everything together until well combined.
Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and stir until just combined before adding in the peanut butter chips.
Finally, it’s time to scoop and bake! We use a medium cookie scoop.
The last step is to bake the cookies for 8 minutes. Normally, I prefer to overbake my cookies because I like them a bit more crisp. But read on to the next section to see why I DO NOT OVERBAKE these peanut butter chip cookies.
Tips for Peanut Butter Chip Cookies
- The cookies puff up and spread while baking, and then they flatten out when cooling.
- Overbaking is to be avoided as you’ll end up with a dry, crunchy cookie. The cookies need to be slightly under baked when removed from the oven to ensure chewiness.
- Cool on a wire rack for a bit before transporting for best results.
