The Combination of Maple Syrup and Sausage
You may have just scanned that ingredient list and took a double take. Maple syrup in chili? I know it sounds odd, but think about all the maple sausage recipes out there! You can even buy maple sausage at the store. It is a thing, believe me!
In our beef and sausage chili recipe, the hint of maple syrup is just there – just enough to give a good flavoring to the sausage and beef base.
Simple Steps to Beef and Sausage Chili
First, you simply brown some thawed ground beef and thawed ground sausage with onions and garlic in a large stock pot. Drain the meat and add the meat back to the pot.
Next, it’s time to start adding in the tomato sauce and paste and the tomatoes.
Then, stir in the beans and the maple syrup. Last, you will add the broth and the seasonings.
Set the mixture to boil on medium-high heat. Once this stove top chili has reached a full boiling stage, it’s time to turn it down to a simmer, uncovered, for around 15 minutes.
What to Serve with this Easy Beef Sausage Chili
Of course, like with any chili, you can change the base to reflect the ingredients you prefer. I love to make this easy chili recipe to serve with tamales, rice, or for Frito chili pie. Of course, it’s great with a cornbread muffin on the side, too!
