Baked apples are the perfect way to celebrate the changing season. For example, apples are popular in the fall for apple-picking season. Recipe Tips for Oven Stuffed Apples
- Be sure to choose apples with vibrant coloring that are firm and free from blemishes.
- To prevent apples from tipping over, you should place them into a small baking pan with a snug fit so they won’t budge. You can also make rings of foil to place around the bottom of each apple to keep them from tipping.
- You can baste the apples with additional melted butter a couple of times while cooking to retain more moisture.
- Serve topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Recipe Variations of Baked Apples with Walnuts
- Replace the butter with unsalted butter or a neutral cooking oil such as refined coconut oil.
- Substitute chopped pecans or another favorite nut.
- Try a splash of vanilla extract or swap the cinnamon for pumpkin pie spice to switch up the flavor.
- Feel free to use a different apple variety such as gala or pink lady.
- Use an alternative sweetener such as 1 tablespoon of honey, maple syrup, or a zero calorie sweetener.
Storage, Advance Prep, and Reheating Instructions
- Store leftover baked apples in the refrigerator for up to 2 days for the ideal taste and texture. Be sure to let them cool completely before placing them into an airtight container or bag for storage.
- To reheat: Place the apples onto a microwave-safe plate and microwave for 30-45 seconds until sufficiently warmed. Alternatively, warm in an air fryer or the oven for 5-7 minutes at 300 degrees.
