Are you wondering what to wear in Nashville when you visit? It’s no lie that many of the folks you will see around Nashville will be wearing pretty much the same types of styles you wear at home – no matter where you come from. There are not nearly as many cowboy hats, boots, and neck scarves as you might think! That being said – what’s the fun in dressing just like you would at home? We had fun adding just a little bit of Nashville whimsy to our outfits! Scroll on to see what we wore.
Some people will tell you not to dress like a tourist when traveling and to try to blend in. In this case, they mean you shouldn’t wear cowboy boots or cowboy hats in your Nashville outfit and just be casual. Well, I’m not one of those people! I’ve never understood the notion of trying to not look like a tourist. For goodness sake, I AM a tourist! When it comes to what to wear to Nashville, the fun for me is going with a western fashion theme! Bring on the boots!
Ideas for What to Wear in Nashville
You will see in our photos below – of my two daughters and me – that we kept several things on repeat throughout the week:
- jean jackets
- denim shorts
- metallic cowboy boots
- red suede cowboy boots
- brown vintage cowboy boots
- black leggings
- basic black shirt (for my youngest daughter)
When packing before our trip, we really put some think time into how we could pack minimally and reuse items. In fact, my oldest daughter who is now taller than me at 12 years old fits a lot of my clothes. She wore my jean jacket a few times. She also wore my brown vintage cowboy boots which were actually my mom’s cowboy boots in the 1970s!
Also, time of year is important, obviously. In this post, we are showing ideas for what to wear to Nashville in March. But these ideas could work for many other months of the year, too! Use these Nashville outfit ideas for fall, for winter, or for spring!
Graphic T-Shirt, Leggings and Red Suede Cowboy Boots
This outfit using my “Country Roads Take Me Home” graphic t-shirt was so easy to throw on and tootle around downtown Nashville and Music Row. I bought the red suede boots at the Boot Barn on Broadway the day after we arrived in Nashville. I just love using red as a neutral!
Leopard Flare Pants and Pink Boots for What to Wear in Nashville
These leopard flare pants are too much fun! And they were even more fun paired with my suede pink cowboy booties and a brown suede jacket.
Graphic T-Shirt with Red Cowboy Boots and Leggings
I’m not gonna lie. These red silver-tip boots are fire, but they kill my feet! I was only able to wear them for a short time. But…man, they are so vibrant and fun!
Purple Fringe Dress with Metallic Boots for Nashville Outfit Ideas
My girls and I dressed it up a bit for the Grand Ole Opry! You can read all about our Grand Ole Opry outfits in our previous post. My purple fringe dress was such a fun outfit for Nashville!
Magenta Tunic with Leggings and Metallic Boots
My silver boots were on repeat with this magenta velvet tunic with leggings. This outfit was extremely comfortable for going around the SoBro neighborhood and the Adventure Science Center.
Denim and Dresses with Cowboy Boots for What to Wear to Nashville
Is there anything more Nashville than denim and cowboy boots?
Denim and Tennis Shoes
Of course, tennis shoes are just as popular in Nashville as they are anywhere else! Your feet will thank you for a day or two here in there in your favorite tennis shoes! My feet were singing “hallelulah” on the day we went to the Nashville Zoo!
Different Styles of Western Outfits
Of course, like with most things, there are various styles when we are talking western wear. There is Texas western and New Mexico western – both which seem to carry a bit of southwestern style in them. Then there is rodeo western style. You might prefer a boho country style or a coastal country style. Some people go for casual chic country – which is really just a slightly westernized casual look. And in Nashville, there seems to be a glam country style.
My Favorite Western Outfit Boutiques
I have increasingly become enamored with chic western wear over the last few years. My Facebook algorithm is to blame! Once I started engaging with a few Facebook posts of cute western wear, more and more shops found their way into my feed – and my wallet. Oopsie! Here are some of my favorites you might want to check out. There might be the perfect piece for you for what to wear in Nashville.
Some of these collections lean a little more rodeo, some are more coastal cowboy, some are glam country, while others lean a bit Navajo. And some – like Three Bird Nest – fall more into boho country or festival fashion. Some shops carry a lot of styles so you will have to narrow down the collections. Others are solely western fashion shops.
You just have to look through and find the perfect outfit to wear in Nashville!
- Wild Horse Boutique
- Grace and Emma
- Three Bird Nest
- Pretty and Pink Co
- Wild Junkie Boutique
- Urban Cowgirl Denver
- The Wild J
- Krush Kandy
- Gussied Up Online
- Country Outfitter (has men and kids’ clothes, also)
