If you are planning some time in Panama, you might want to carve some time to check out the impressive Albrook Mall in Panama City! If you are traveling with family, the mall can be a good place to get out of the humid heat in Panama City. My family had a great time exploring the mall. It was probably the largest mall my girls have ever seen! The Albrook Mall boasts over 700 stores and restaurants and has tons of separate areas.
Cute Layout of Albrook Mall
Each corridor in Albrook Mall in Panama City, Panama is named after an animal. Norah had fun going and taking her picture with as many of the animal statues as possible as we walked around. There is an orca hall, a koala hall, a shark hall, etc. If you are really hoping to wear your kids out, it can be a fun game to see how many of the animals you can make it around to for a photo – kind of like a scavenger hunt! As big as the mall is, your kiddos will burn some energy for sure.
Stores at the Albrook Mall
Stores included many that Americans should be familiar with – Guess, Kenneth Cole, Oscar de la Renta, Payless, and so many more. There is also a healthy blend of Panamanian based stores. One thing that is interesting is some of the stores will staple up your bag so that it cannot be opened again while you are in the mall. One lady asked me if I wanted the candy I bought in the bag or in my hand. I didn’t really get what she was getting at, and I told her to just put it in the bag. Lesson learned! She stapled up that back so much that even the Panamanian military couldn’t have entered. The girls couldn’t get the candy until we left the mall.
Restaurants in Albrook Mall in Panama City, Panama
You can grab lunch at Burger King, Dairy Queen, Wendy’s, Subway, and so many other fast food type places in the food courts. There is also a healthy mix of Panamanian-based eateries. We saw pastry shops and lots of other authentic style restaurants.
Some restaurants were more upscale than others.
We ate the grilled chicken breast and the grilled pork chops at La Parilla de la Estancia. You can choose your sides, and we chose patacones (fried plantains) and yuca frita (fried yuca).
My cousins ordered fried chicken at one of the barbecue restaurants. I was surprised to see the fried chicken served with disposable gloves for eating. That is not something I’m familiar with in the United States. All these years, I’ve been getting my fingers nasty for no reason!
Other Attractions in this Huge Panama City, Panama Mall
There is a train that gives rides to children and parents.
Albrook Mall even has a hotel situated at one end! And even a Copa Airlines ticket sales station and a bowling alley.
There are two carousel horse rides near the food courts.
We also saw a medical center and a huge art exhibit.
The Hotel Marriott Panama even connects to this mall, which is the largest commercial center in Central America!
Getting to and from Albrook Mall in Panama City
The primary entrance to Albrook Mall is the Tiger entrance (Tigre). Outside you might find a mass of chaos of buses, taxis, Ubers, and personal cars. People also walk from the metro.
In fact, when you put in for an Uber request, Uber actually pops up all the different animal entrances for you to select – much like it does with popping up the different airline terminals at an airport. This place is massive!
There are a lot of people visiting this mall each day. We visited on a Saturday, and I was shocked at how many people were actually out and about, enjoying the mall. Maybe it is because it is fully air-conditioned and may provide a nice break for many people. Or maybe it is because you can find just about anything there – whether it is something to eat or something to buy. There is also free wi-fi.
Whatever your reason for going, you will surely find something to love about Albrook Mall in Panama City, Panama!
