Today I’m sharing a handful of outfits which reveal my fondness for styling stripes. There are so many ways to wear stripes in fashion. But first, here’s a little Amy secret that will probably surprise you. I used to hate stripes.
And…I used to hate all things black-and-white.
But don’t kick me to the curb just yet! I’ve changed.
Promise!
Isn’t it funny how our tastes evolve around the trends around us? It’s almost scary when you really think about it!
Being 5 foot tall, I’m not saying horizontal stripes are the best ever decision for my closet. But, I just can’t turn away. The more stripes I see, the more I buy.
The ease of putting together a polished outfit is almost laughable when it comes to how to wear stripes. Just check out some of these outfits below. Surely, you can put some together quite easily with items from your own closet.
Oh, and while you do put together some fresh new outfits, be sure to use my free printable wardrobe planner to organize your outfits! You can plan outfits for one week to six weeks…whatever you prefer. I promise it will make your mornings go so much smoother!
Styling Stripes in Fashion
This loose-fitting striped tunic is easily dressed with a fun neck scarf. The more print contrast or color contrast, the better! The outfit is still casual and comfortable. My scarf is from Nordstrom Rack. Of course, you could always choose to go with heeled shoes or booties if you feel sneakers are too casual for your look. Over the years, I’ve gotten okay with wearing lifestyle sneakers to work with certain outfits as long as the overall look is still polished.
If you aren’t allowed to wear denim in your district (or ripped denim), then you can easily swap the jeans out here for some nicer black pants. It is hard to see in this picture, but the bracelets are animal print suede and they really add a fun kick to this overall classic outfit.
This next tank is from Walmart. It has a silky feel to it which adds a slightly more dressy factor than your average tank top. Of course, when wearing this to school I toss a cardigan on top. These fringe boots really put on a show with the simplicity of everything else. But you don’t have to have red fringe booties.
Not all stripes in fashion have to be black-and-white, of course!
This long blouse is the perfect loose fit for a long school day.
I’m all bananas for this layered look.
Oh, you don’t have a blouse with bananas on it? What’s wrong with you? Haha…just kidding. You can easily use most any blouse you have underneath a striped sweater. The unexpected show of pattern or color under the stripes is so much fun!
How about you? Are you partial to certain types of stripes or do you wear them all?
