I’m back again today with another waffle variety to add to my waffles series here on the blog. These made from scratch strawberry waffles are full of freshly chopped strawberries and feature a sweet but not too sweet batter.

This easy waffles with strawberries recipe is one of many flavorful waffle recipes hitting the blog this year. Have you ever visited our birthday waffles recipe or our cinnamon waffles recipe? Find them linked at the bottom of the post!
Use Thick Batter for Waffles with Strawberries
This strawberry Belgian waffles recipe is based off of a standard waffle mix I begin with and then develop into other flavors. That is how all the waffle recipes on this blog have come to exist.
This homemade batter for waffles with strawberries will be thick which is what you must have for proper waffles. When you use a waffle batter that is too thin, you risk having torn waffles in your waffle maker. Stick with thick batter.
I enjoy the Belgian style waffles in the square shape from our Cuisinart Belgian Waffle Maker that we’ve had for years. Waffle grippers are also handy for removal of the waffles.
Make Quick Strawberry Sauce for Waffles
While your batter rests, you can easily whip together a quick strawberry sauce on your stovetop. Using fresh strawberries, some lemon juice, and a bit of sugar and cornstarch, you can have a fresh strawberry sauce in about ten minutes. I have linked instructions in the recipe card below.
Other Toppings for Waffles with Strawberries
You have lots of other options when it comes to topping these strawberry waffles.
- Buy a pre-made strawberry sauce at the store
- Top with fresh strawberries and whipped cream (homemade whipped cream or Cool Whip)
- Dust with powdered sugar and fresh strawberries
- Top with traditional butter and pancake syrup
- Top with strawberry glaze
- Top with a strawberry pancake syrup
Add Strawberry Hearts to Your Strawberry Waffles
To make these strawberry waffles extra special for a Valentine’s Day or a wedding shower breakfast or brunch, add strawberries shaped into hearts for garnish. Making the strawberry hearts couldn’t be easier!
For each serving plate, choose two freshly washed and dried strawberries with pointed bottoms. Slice them in half vertically. Then, you will take a small knife and cut a small inverted triangle into the top of each strawberry. If the triangle comes out asymmetrical, just try to shape it up with the knife. You may also round out the “shoulders” of the strawberry hearts if you need to.
Next, admire how cute your little heart shaped strawberries are!
Extra Waffles? Freeze Them!
These thick and fluffy strawberry waffles freeze very well. I simply stack cooled waffles onto a paper plate and slide into a large gallon freezer bag. I keep them up to three months – though they don’t usually last that long! You can also put them into an air-tight plastic freezer container.
To reheat, I just pop frozen waffles into the microwave and heat for a around a minute and ten seconds. Sometimes, they may need another 10 seconds or so (depending on your microwave), but it’s best to not overdo it. You can also pop them into your toaster!
Strawberry Waffles
Equipment
- waffle maker
Ingredients
Strawberry Waffles
- 6 cups All purpose flour
- ½ cup Granulated sugar
- ¼ cup Baking powder
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 1½ tsp Salt
- 3½ cups Milk
- 1 cup Vegetable oil plus two tablespoons
- 4 Eggs lightly beaten
- 2 cups Strawberries fresh and chopped*
Easy Strawberry Sauce (Optional)
- 2 cups Strawberries roughly chopped (about one pound)
- ¼ cup Granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 1 tbsp Cornstarch
- 3 tbsp Water cold
Instructions
To Make Strawberry Waffles
- In mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients.
- Add all wet ingredients to bowl.
- Mix until smooth and well-blended.
- Add chopped strawberries and mix again for 20-30 seconds.
- Preheat waffle maker.
- Once the waffle maker is adequately heated, add batter to the center of the lower grid. (You can use a measuring cup to do this, filling a bit at the time until the grid is filled evenly. Do not overfill the grids as batter may run over the edges. If you start with center first and spread batter outward with a spatula, you will reduce the chance of the batter running over the sides as waffles cook.)
- As you remove each group of cooked waffles from the machine, you may place them on a baking pan in a 200℉ oven while the rest of the waffles cook. This will keep them warm.
- Garnish with the optional strawberry sauce and Cool Whip. Or use syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh fruit.
To Make Quick Strawberry Sauce (Optional)
- In a medium saucepan, add chopped strawberries and lemon juice.
- In a small glass, whisk cornstarch into cold water.
- Pour cornstarch mixture into pan with strawberries.
- Cook for five minutes until strawberries have cooked down somewhat and mixture seems thickened.
- Serve warm or cold over waffles.

Delicious, but 300° way too hot for keeping waffles warm!!!!!!! Just cooks em to death! Should be 200°!!!
Amy
Oh, my goodness! Thank you for pointing that out! I had no idea this whole time that the recipe card indicated 300. 200 degrees is what I warm them at as you are right – going much higher only dries things out. I will correct the post. Thanks!
