Planning some solar eclipse snacks or lunar eclipse snacks? Look no further than this fun list of ideas taken from our last major solar eclipse event – when we were in the path of full totality here in Arkansas! It was a whole event here in Arkansas, folks! And now we have the best solar eclipse watch party ideas to share with you – especially for food and drink. You can also use many of these for lunar eclipse party ideas!
We had so much fun planning a small family solar eclipse viewing party for the 2024 solar eclipse! Our family – aunt, uncle, and three cousins, live within walking distance to our house. So, of course, we all had to get together for the big eclipse reveal! And then we enjoyed our fun snacks together.
What to Serve for a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party
We spent the whole day in complete solar eclipse theme! We enjoyed a simple solar eclipse themed breakfast followed by some solar eclipse party foods that consisted of snacks, solar eclipse drinks, and other finger foods.
Breakfast Idea for Solar Eclipse
The day started with a solar eclipse egg and sausage combo! I simply poached some eggs and fried up a few sausage patties. (We love the Old Folks pre-made sausage patties! We keep them in the freezer and just toss a few in the skillet whenever we want.) Each person got a different sausage egg eclipse visual on their plate – from waning to waxing!
Solar Eclipse Snack Ideas
For solar eclipse snack ideas, I prepared Oreo moon phases. Rather than using only Oreos, I prepared a plate of Oreos on top of mini cupcakes – a visual cookie documentation of moon phases There were a few trial and error attempts to get all of the Oreos in the proper formation, but I thought it turned out cute!
More Solar Eclipse Party Foods
I also made a snack plate that included white powdered donuts, blueberries, blackberries, popcorn, mini cupcakes with vanilla frosting, white chocolate covered pretzels, and cheddar cheese cut out to look like moons and stars.
I designed the platter to resemble an eclipse arrangement. I happened to have a tiny star cut-out in my cookie cutter collection. But the moons had to be free-handed with a knife. Even when things didn’t turn out perfectly, it was still so much fun to be creative and try out some of these solar eclipse party ideas!
A taco ring that looked like a sun was the final solar eclipse themed party food I managed to come up with on my own.
I used the taco ring recipe from here on our website. And I shaped black olives and shredded cheddar in a design to, again, mimic an eclipse.

Once in a Lifetime Moments
Our family came over about 30 minutes before the big reveal! We had been led to believe we would have full totality, and we were not disappointed! It was an incredible experience! When the sky went dark, the birds stopped chirping and it was like the whole world got still!
We had the whole day off from school thanks to the predicted heavy traffic and extreme tourism that was forecasted for the area. Our school district, always proactive had build the year’s calendar around that day so we could be off and enjoy this special event.
A special author named Darcy Pattison came to the girls’ school a few days before, and the kids were gifted a special Eclipse children’s book by their teachers.
The girls decorated the driveway the night before.
