Well, welcome my fellow Christmas decor enthusiasts! Isn’t it crazy the Christmas season is already in swing? Today, I will share how I am decorating with house plants on the Christmas table this year.
As I’ve mentioned before, I found a sort of plant mentor in Wild Bill at my local Lowe’s store. Bill has been my go-to guy for plant care for the last two years. He turned a plant hospice director into at least a somewhat steady plant day care director. He is used to giving plant advice on his Facebook Page – Wild Bill’s Garden Journal.
Decorating house plants for Christmas is my new holiday thing.
Last year, I fell in love with the Christmas plant decoration at Lowe’s. They had the cutest little succulents in Santa pots. I bought a ton of Christmas plant decoration to use on my Christmas table and to give away as gifts. I have found great joy in giving plants as gifts to friends, to teachers, and to party hosts. Also, I’ve found a love of working plants into all my holiday decor – like best Christmas plants for gifts, my inexpensive fall decor with house plants and my modern spring table setting.
How to Decorate with House Plants on the Christmas Table
This year, Lowe’s had a different holiday assortment than last year. The ones I bought the most of this year were these little slices of bark with succulent and moss embedded inside the ring. The slices are on a red ribbon so they can be used as Christmas ornaments. To water them, you simply spritz them with a water bottle once a week.
I bought the entire lot that Lowe’s had in stock! I am not only using the plants on the Christmas table, but they will be party favors for party guests. Any extra Christmas plant decoration will work as teacher gifts for my girls’ teachers and for some of my coworkers.
Decorating house plants for Christmas entertaining could not be any more fun!
The cute little spruce trees are adorable in baskets or metal containers. I pulled these teal metal containers from some of the planters around my house to use as the containers. Silver galvanized buckets would also be cute – especially if you want to tie in a bit of a farmhouse style. The little trees are also from Lowe’s. They originally had white ornaments tied on. I took those off and replaced with various tones of gold ornaments to better coordinate with my decor. The little spruce trees have a bit of a sparkle to them.
The little glass globes with string lights and succulents on the top are also from Lowe’s.
Caring for Your Christmas Plant Decoration
Caring for the Christmas plant decoration is pretty simple. All of the succulents and small spruce plants need good indirect sunlight. For me, my dining room has windows around the perimeter of the room, catching great afternoon light.
In general, the succulents need one-two spritzes of water weekly. I go around the table with my little spray bottle and give each succulent a good spritz one time a week. The spruce plants need to have moist soil or the little needles will start to brown and drop on your Christmas table. You will need to water the spruce trees weekly in a sink, returning the trees to the table once all water has drained. Make sure the plastic pot around the roots have drainage holes which can drain into your sink. Once back on the table, the plants should set on top of water-catching trays (at the bottom of your cute decorative pots or tins).
Now, if only I can remember to spritz my plants on the Christmas table with water once a week until my Christmas parties, everything will be great! How about you? Do you like to decorating house plants for Christmas?
