Are you looking for ministry names ideas? You’ve landed in the right place! Years ago, a lady at my former church and myself brainstormed a list of catchy ministry names ideas for our ladies church group. This group was more of a ladies fellowship group to help build relationships among adult women in the church. I had the best time thinking out the potential names for our future group. Today, I’m sharing a huge list of Christian group names with you for you to ponder.
We eventually settled on Girlfriends and Grace as our women’s ministry name, and it’s a name I still love to this day. My current Sunday School group – now at a different church that my family joined over five years ago – is called Common Ground.
Why Would You Need Christian Names for Groups?
Churches – even small ones – benefit from giving names to various organized groups within the church. Ministry names help a group of people feel united under one name with a clear focus.
You don’t necessarily have to use serious-sounding Christian names for groups (example: Disciples in Christ, Prayer Warriors, etc.) But, depending on the people and the mission, more serious Christian names for groups are often used. Other times, the founders of a group may choose to use more of a cheeky name (example: Age Spots).
TIP #1 for Assigning Christian Names to Church Groups: Make sure the name clearly lends itself to the type of group and the type of people within the group. “Crusaders” might sound like a nice and strong life group name. But does it really tell the new person at church interested in joining a group what the the group will actually be about? A life group named “Empty Nesters” lets the person know the group is likely made up of middle age to older church members who are in a new stage of life in their Christian journey. If you do decide to go with one of the less detailed names, be sure to include some detailed description of your church group so people know what they are getting into.
What Type of Church Groups Would Benefit from These Catchy Ministry Names Ideas?
All types of church groups benefit from being defined with a clever name. It isn’t enough to say “The Women’s Group” especially if there are multiple different groups within the church that include women.
These ministry names ideas work well as Sunday school class names, life group names, children ministry names, women’s ministry names, women’s fellowship names, prayer group names, Christian youth group names, men’s ministry names, etc.
TIP #2 for Assigning Christian Names to Church Groups: Keep the names short and catchy. In my opinion, most names work better if they are three words or less. Occasionally, a four-word name might work. But the shorter the better, typically.
Sunday School Class Names and Life Group Names
The name of my previous adult Sunday school class was New Beginnings. The name has significance in that the beginning members of the group had come to new places in their lives and were welcoming change under God’s direction.
As I mentioned above, my new adult Sunday school group is called Common Ground – based on the principal that our group members have many things in common – one being the majority are of similar age and many of us have children of similar age.
Choose Names With Meaning (That Will Last)
Sunday school class names should be meaningful but should also be carefully thought out so as not to exclude any particular person who may come along later interested in joining.
The same goes for life groups (or discipleship groups, small groups, church cells, or whatever your church calls them).

Children Ministry Names
Children ministry names can be cute, cute, cute! These names are typically sweet. Sometimes a church will use their church name with the added word “kids.” An example would be the way one local church in my area (also a former church of mine in my young adult years) labels its children’s program -simply Rock Creek Kids.
- Small Blessings
- Little Blessings
- Kids Konnect
- Children Connect
- Kidventure
- Little LIghts

Women’s Ministry Names or Women’s Fellowship Groups

Young Adult Ministry Names
These young adult ministry names are interchangeable with several other categories listed in this post.
- Jesus Strong
- Innovators
- Rekindled
- Friendship Fellowship
- Redeemed
Christian Youth Group Names
Christian youth group names are somewhat tricky. You want something fun and clever that tweens and teens will connect with. The older the kids get, you might want to transition away from cute and sweet-sy to cool and hip…because you know…tweens think they are teens. And teens think they are adults. This teacher knows a thing or two about tweens and teens!
- Rise and Shine
- Sonshine
- Quest
- The Bridge
- Upward
- Odyssey
- Let’s Go Fishing (a group that connects kids’ love of fishing with the failures that come with the sport to the failures in life and Christ’s ability to pull us through)
- Friends in Faith

Outreach Ministry Names
My ears have caught hold of so many different outreach ministry names over the years. Many churches run a lot of ministry programs and missions. There are so many ministry names ideas out there, but again – it is best to include detail of the mission either in the name or in an included description.
- Coffee with a Cause
- Elevate
- Helping Hands
- 2 Fish, 5 Loaves
- Purposeful Living
- The Call
- Lighthouse
- Calvary in Christ
- Head, Heart, Hands
Prayer Group Names
Prayer group names often include the name prayer in the title. This is another one where the title of the church is sometimes included. For example, Sylvan Hills Methodist Prayer Group. But special names go a long way, too.
- Peace in Prayer
- Peacemakers
- Beacons of Light
- Worship Warriors
Some churches use acronyms for youth group names or ministry names. I’ve never been a big fan of acronyms for much of anything. I find that they often cause confusion. Think of how many times you hear someone question an acronym. “What does that stand for again?” I’d rather stay clear of confusion.
Well, there you have it! Whether you came looking for Sunday school class names, Christian names for youth groups, names for kids ministry, or names for small groups, I hope you found some ministry names ideas you can roll with! I’m sure I will update this list from time to time as I think of more ministry names ideas or hear of new names for Sunday school classes in my church or friends’ churches.
