I’ve been a little MIA the last month or so and for good reason. Little One made her arrival in early November, and I have been consumed with every little perfect piece of her. Thankfully, we induced a week early instead of a week late like we did last time. I thought about introducing Little One to you all sooner, but part of me wanted to keep her all to myself for a while. Well, except for exploiting her over and over again on Instagram. And Facebook. And Twitter. Aren’t we given some kind of grace period of over-sharing our newborns? Many of the readers of this blog have probably already seen some of these pictures on social media. And there is still time to “like” a picture or two of my little beauty if you haven’t already. Doesn’t every mother keep tabs on who does and doesn’t like or comment on the photos of her babies?
For the intents of the blog, the baby will be called Little One (LO). Just as I refer to my two-year-old as Scooter Britches (SB), I prefer that this baby is referred to by a nickname in my little corner of cyberspace. My dad used to call me Little One when I was young. I think it is a fitting nickname given that she was two pounds smaller at birth than our first daughter, and she is the youngest (and most likely the last) of our children. Puddin’ Pop was another contender as it seems to just naturally want to roll off my tongue when I think of LO. (Puddin’ was another nickname my dad had for me.) However, given my tendency to abbreviate, I couldn’t entertain the idea of calling her PP on the blog. When it comes down to – just as with SB – this baby will have multiple nicknames at home. Just know that her real name is equally cool and she was given her middle name after her aunt.It has been an adjustment having a newborn and a two-year-old in the house, but it really hasn’t been as bad as we had imagined. Having The Hubs home for two weeks of paternity leave and having my parents visit for a week definitely helped with the transition.
Five things about Little One
1.) She is a laid back baby. She pretty much just chills – unless she is hungry or gassy. This is a welcome change after the colic, acid reflux, lactose intolerance issues, and demanding nature we experienced with SB!
2.) When coming out of the womb, she scratched the side of her face will four fingernails and left long scratch marks across her right temple. Something about them reminded me a bit of the upper part of Mike Tyson’s tattoo. The doctor and delivery nurse acted like this was a rather unusual thing to happen.
3.) She was already holding her head up at just a couple weeks of age. What can I say? My children are advanced.
4.) The kid knows her feeding schedule by heart. She can be in a dead slumber, but she will wake herself up at the two-hour feeding mark, by golly. And don’t think she will concern herself with what you might be in the middle of at the time. Don’t worry about this kid going hungry!
5.) She looks nearly identical to SB. Funny story – when SB was first born, I wasn’t a fan of her chin. I know, I know. What kind of mother doesn’t see every aspect of her newborn as pure perfection? I wonder the same, but I think it was because I had some crazy image in my head of what I thought she might look like. Then, when she came out, she looked totally different. I certainly did not expect a prominent chin dimple. In the beginning, it reminded me of a chin that belonged to a little old man (which actually complemented the receding hairline look she had going for a while). But soon after, I came to love that chin. Really love it. It is my favorite part of her whole perfect little face. In fact, right before LO was born, I told The Hubs that I hoped LO had the same cute chin dimple as SB. And wouldn’t you know it? She does! Another special little touch from God, as one of our family members called it.
What’s that you say? Enough rambling? Do you want to see pictures? Okay, but when you get tired of the overload, don’t say you didn’t ask.

One Week (Professional) Photo Session by Lori Sparkman Photography
Lori Sparkman, our family photographer came through for us again with some precious keepsake photos. All of the following pictures are courtesy of her.
I just love this picture of SB. She had turned two only a couple of weeks before so I am considering this her two-year-old portrait. |
Now, that you’ve been formally introduced to our sweet Little One, you can expect more overload in future posts. Until next time!
