I am here today to help you plan an amazing Halloween disco party for kids! Since my girls’ birthdays are both around Halloween, I find myself trying to think out creative ways to incorporate Halloween themes into our parties. I thought out all kinds of themes – most of which are heavily done. And then it came to me…a Let’s BOOgie theme! How cute is that?! This kids disco party idea is great for birthdays, school Halloween party, neighborhood Halloween party, etc.
However, many of the ideas in this post are perfect for kids disco parties any time of year! Just remove the Halloween references. Check out our recommendations of fun dance party games for kids, kids disco music (clean!), disco party decor ideas, and more!

So How Do You Throw a Kids Dance Party?
If you are trying to figure out how to throw a kids dance party, focus on the music! Music is the whole vibe of a disco party itself. You can even incorporate music games into the kids dance party!
Read on for elevating your kids disco party with music, decorations, and food!
Decorations for a Disco Party for Kids
Obviously, for a disco party for kids, you will need plenty of disco balls and 70s glam! We decorated with probably 75 percent disco decorations and a little bit of Halloween mixed in.
The party was definitely more fun with a few disco balls staged in high traffic areas and a few large banners for the “dance floor” area (AKA…the garage). If you aren’t hosting your kids disco party at Halloween time, you will definitely need to kick in a lot more disco decorations since you won’t have the Halloween decor to fill in. This big pack of disco balls might be one you need.
These large disco ball balloons were also great for filling up corners of the large garage. I would warn you to consider where you can take balloons these days to be filled before you order any. In my area, it has become more and more difficult to have balloons filled with helium. According to someone at one of the local florist shops, there is some kind of helium shortage so helium is not as readily available as it once was, apparently. My local Kroger came in clutch for me and agreed to fill my balloons, though it was a touch pricey to do so.
On one of the walls, I taped several sets of these shimmery foil fringe curtains to help the place feel more disco-y and less garage-y.
For another wall in the garage, we hung a Time to Boogie banner on the wall.
Kids Disco Costumes (or Halloween Costumes)
Since our party was the weekend of Halloween, the easy thing to do was have the kids wear their Halloween costumes. However, had we hosted this party any other time of year, I would have totally encouraged the kids to wear fun and appropriate 70s disco clothes! Instead, my older daughter wore this Descendants Mal costume with this purple wig. My younger daughter wore this Descendants Audrey costume with an ombre Audrey wig.
For myself, I bought a cute Disco t-shirt and wore that through the night.
Food Ideas
For the kids, we served pizza and cupcakes with a marbled swirl of colors.
There was also a sheet cake inside for the adults to help themselves too with the same marbled colors as the cupcakes. I bought a few disco ball cake toppers and placed on top.
Inside the kitchen, I prepared a charcuterie board of fruits, crackers, cheeses, and dips for the adults. I used my new bamboo charcuterie board which I am in love with for the first of many times at this event! Kids were welcome to this food also, but very wanted any of it.
My absolute favorite part of the kids disco party food were the custom cookies I ordered from a local bakery. I simply told her we were having a BOO-gie Halloween Disco for kids, and look at the fantaboolous Halloween disco cookies she made!
Kids Disco Music Playlist and Disco Lights
This kids disco music playlist can be used year round! I pulled sixteen of the best kid-friendly disco songs out there and added four old favorite Halloween-y songs and my a playlist on my phone. We used our party lights disco ball to play the music in the garage. This little gadget made for perfect kids disco lights! We actually bought two of them and kept one inside the house. If you have a large space, you probably need two of them to fill the space.
Using a Bluetooth speaker, you could set your computer or iPad up with a speaker to play Kids Disco music videos.
Halloween Songs Playlist and Kids Disco Playlist
The first four songs on the list are Halloween theme songs for a Halloween disco for kids. If you don’t need the Halloween songs because your kids disco party is during another time of year, then just disregard and use the rest of the kids disco music.

Use Music with Disco Dance Party Games for Kids Disco Party
When planning for this event, I thought out what I wanted for disco dance party games. For sure, I wanted minimal prep when it came to games. We had the best time playing the easiest games ever! It’s so cool to let the kids play the games under the disco lights with their glow necklaces and bracelets all aglow.
- Hot Disco Ball – I’m totally making this one up. But it works well. This is like the game Hot Potato but I just changed the name to keep it in theme. If you have a lot of kids, you can make two big circles and have one ball per circle. Or you can have one big circle and use 2-3 balls to pass around. When the music stops playing, the kids with the hot disco balls must move to the center of the circle. Last year, I found some cute disco ball pillows in the dollar spot at Target. Those would have been perfect for our game!
- Musical Chairs – The basic old method of Musical Chairs works well at a disco!
- Animal Dance – While music is playing, call out random animal names. The kids have to pretend to move like the animal called until you move on to a new animal.
- Limbo – Although Limbo is probably more associated with a luau, this is still a fun game to play at a kid’s disco party!
- Balloon Dance – This one requires a little more effort because you have to air up balloons ahead of time. Each child is given an aired up latex balloon. While a disco song is playing, they have to try to juggle their balloon without letting the balloon hit the floor.
- Freeze Dance – Freeze Dance is the perfect no prep game for kids disco parties! Play those kids disco playlist tunes and have at it!
Letter Board Quote Ideas for Halloween Disco
As always, I had fun thinking up some fun themed letter board quotes to pop around the party areas.
