Jalapeno Artichoke Appetizer on Rye Bread
I grew up eating little party rye bread appetizers at parties when I was growing up. My mom made them often when we took something for potluck.
Basically, the end result is a tray of little baked toasts (rye, sourdough, pumpernickel) topped with a tasty goodness of melted cheese and other toppings.
Where to Buy Rye Party Bread?
Seasonally, Edward’s Grocery Store carries the small rye party bread in its bakery section. Kroger also carries them often. Sometimes, I find them in various times around the year. I often buy a few extra packages to stock in my freezer.
Where to Buy Jalapeno Artichoke Dip?
We often buy our jalapeno artichoke dip at Walmart. The Marketside brand is sold in the deli department. We keep it on hand often to dip with chips and veggie sticks.
But many people also rave about the jalapeno artichoke dip from Costco and the Trader Joe’s jalapeno artichoke dip.
Whether you are using the jalapeno artichoke dip from Costco, the one we use from Walmart, or the artichoke jalapeno dip from Trader Joe’s, the end results will be a yummy and fast appetizer that party guests will enjoy!
The main thing is to use a dip that is thick. If the dip is too runny, the dip will run off the breads when it heats in the oven. The Marketside dip that I use is nice and thick and pretty much has to be forced off the spoon as you can see in the photo below.
Assembling Jalapeno Artichoke Rye Bread Appetizers
Assembling jalapeno artichoke dip rye bread appetizers is really easy. Simply, I set the cocktail rye bread on a baking sheet. Typically, I can fit up to about 20 breads onto one baking sheet. Using a spoon, I scoop about a tablespoon’s worth of dip onto each rye bread.
Next, I sprinkle just a bit of shredded Cheddar on each bread. Then, I dust with just a bit of red pepper flakes. The red pepper flakes is not a required ingredient, but it does add a different layer of spice. Mostly, I add it for the color. Since the breads are tan and brown and the dip is beige, it is nice to have a few sprinkles of red on top.
Finally, I bake the party rye bread in the oven at 400 degrees for about 6-7 minutes.
How to Serve Rye Party Bread Appetizers?
Rye party bread appetizers are fabulous at any potluck style gathering or party. They make perfect football party food (along with my BBQ Dip for potato chips).
We often take them as Christmas party appetizers, and I also take them for ladies night out gatherings at someone’s house throughout the year. They are best served warm so you definitely need to make sure you have a way to heat them.
When possible, I assemble them at the party to ensure they will be hot when served. I bring the cocktail rye bread already laid out on a baking pan and covered with foil. Also, I bring the dip, the cheese, and the red pepper. It only takes a minute or two to scoop the dip onto the breads and dust them with cheese and pepper before popping the pan into the oven for a few minutes.
