It’s that time again – Hispanic Heritage Month! In my later years in life, I’m finding myself more interested in showing off my Panamanian heritage to the world! The last couple years, I’ve been adding more Hispanic Heritage Month shirts to my closet and proudly sporting my Hispanic Heritage Month outfits during September and October and other times of the year, as well.

Today, I’m sharing some links to my favorite Hispanic Heritage Month t-shirts on Amazon. Some of these are specific Hispanic Heritage Month shirts. Others are simply proud Panamanian t-shirts and others are cute ones that I have found that represent other Hispanic cultures.
Handmade Panamanian Pollera Dresses
But first and foremost, I must show you the amazing Panamanian pollera dresses that my mom made for the girls and me! A few years ago, she painstakingly made us these dresses. The girls were much smaller!
This year, she reworked the fabric – adding extra layers and extending sections as needed to make the dresses work! She also made an entirely new dress for Harper since she is about as tall as me now (or even taller)!
And no, that is not a big orange plaid bow on my head. Ha! We need to pay more attention about what is behind us when we take photos. That was part of the door wreath.
If you don’t have a crafty seamstress mamá like I do, there are a few selections of Panama pollera dresses on Amazon. These ones I’ve seen on there are more of the traditional Panamanian pollera dresses. The style my mom made is considered the pollera de luxo – modern style of pollera dresses of luxury. You can read more about the differences between the traditional pollera and the modern pollera dresses.
On my mom’s last trip to Panama, she picked us up some tembleques (hair pieces) for our polleras. We are wearing them in these pictures though I failed to get a good photo from the back to highlight the tembleques. There are many different accessories and pieces of jewelry for pollera dresses. Perhaps over the years, we will continue to pick up more pieces when we visit Panama.
Mexican Embroidered Dresses
At one of the local Hispanic Heritage events in Arkansas two years ago, I purchased Mexican embroidered dresses for the girls and me from a local Mexican family who sells handmade dresses from Mexico.
While we are Panamanian and not Mexican, I just cannot help but be drawn to the colors and beauty of Mexican dresses!
If you are lucky enough to have a local vendor that carries these types of dresses, you might want to check into adding some to your wardrobe. If not, Amazon does carry some styles of these dresses and also some Folklorico dresses.
- This women’s short sleeve embroidered Mexican dress has a similar vibe to the one I have.
- This ladies ruffled collar embroidered Mexican dress is so fun and similar to the ones my daughters have.
- This longer Mexican style dress is so fun, too!
