Some people go all-out for Halloween treats, and honestly? I love that for them. But sometimes, I just want to bring something to the Halloween party that’s festive and takes less than five minutes to throw together. Enter: Spiderweb Halloween Hummus — a store-bought shortcut that turns your favorite dip into a spooky showstopper, complete with a sour cream spiderweb and creepy-cute plastic spiders.
This snack is so easy it barely qualifies as a “recipe,” but this “Spiderweb Spread” is just what your Halloween party needs!

What You’ll Need to Make Spiderweb Spread
- 1 container of store-bought hummus (classic, garlic, roasted red pepper — whatever you’re into! I do recommend using a darker colored hummus – like maybe the roasted red pepper hummus that is a darker color – that way your spiderweb will stand out more than mine did in these photos.)
- Sour cream, in the squirt bottle or added to a zip-top bag with the corner snipped
- A few plastic spiders (non-edible! just for decoration!)
- Optional: Paprika or black sesame seeds for a spooky sprinkle effect
- Pita chips, pretzels, or fresh veggies for dipping
That’s it. Seriously.
Want to Make Your Own Spiderweb Halloween Hummus?
If you’re in a homemade mood (you go, little kitchen goblin), here are a couple of hummus recipes I love from around the web:
But again — store-bought is the real MVP here, especially when you’re juggling costumes, candy, and 43 school, church, and community Halloween parties and fall festivals in one week.

How to Make the Spiderweb Topping
- Smooth the top of your hummus with a spoon so it’s nice and flat.
- Fill a squirt bottle (or a zip-top baggie) with sour cream.
- Pipe on 3–4 concentric circles of sour cream, starting from the center and working outward.
- Use a toothpick to gently drag lines outward from the center, creating that webby look.
- Place a couple of plastic spiders on the “web.” Boom. Halloween magic.
- Remove any labels or tags that are on your container. (Optionally: you could scrape the hummus out of the original container at the beginning and put in your own nice bowl. Do that before making the spiderweb though.)

When to Serve This Halloween Hummus
- Office potlucks (looks impressive, takes 2 minutes)
- School parties (just remind kids not to eat the spiders, ha!)
- Movie nights and snack boards
- “I need something that looks like I tried” situations
- October 1 through 31, obviously

Even The Hubs was impressed by this one — and Harper and Norah loved putting the spiders on (and repositioning them 72 times for maximum creep factor).

So go ahead. Grab that tub of hummus, add a web, and enjoy the compliments.
You’ll want to come back to this spiderweb Halloween hummus every year!
