Disclosure: I was hired to promote #NestlePureLifeHalloween waters for a social media campaign. Though I was not required to promote the water in a blog post, I did feature them here in my Boo-llerina Halloween birthday party post because the water fit perfectly into our party theme.
Somehow it is already the end of October and we have already had our Halloween birthday party! Since the girls’ birthdays are two weeks apart, we have a big double party every year.
This year, they wanted a Halloween birthday theme. Since their birthdays fall before and after Halloween, a Halloween birthday party is perfect. But I certainly wanted the theme to be more cute than scary given the young ages of the birthday girls and their guests. So I came up with the idea of a Boo-llerina – a cute ghost for kids – clad in ballerina attire. This cute ghost party is perfect for my girly girls.
And what is sweeter than a little cute ghost with a pink hair bow and a tutu? You tell me.
This year, I decided to reserve the large pavilion at our nearest park. The last few years, I dumped a good bit of money on the party places, and I decided I wanted to go low-key this year. Of course, the weather man is your best friend the week before planning an outdoor event. I was checking out that weather report about twice a day! We did have lots of rain and strong wind the night before the party. I was nervous driving over to set up at 8 a.m. the morning of the party. It was still dreary and rainy-looking. Luckily, ten minutes into the party, the clouds lifted and the sun came out!

Boo-llerina Halloween Birthday Party Invitation – Free Download
My husband’s cousin has a design business called Rhiannon Designs out of Oklahoma City. She designed the cutest little boo-llerina ghosts for my invitation. This year was probably the most frazzled I have ever been with party-planning. I often have most things prepped during my summer vacation since I have two months free of work.
This year, I was flying by the seat of my pants. Instead of sending out traditional invitations, I did a Facebook event for the guests who are on Facebook. I am including a link to a Facebook event cover for a boo-llerina party, if you would like to use this for your own party planning – since I figure many of you fellow mamas may be flying by the seat of your pants, too!
Boo-llerina Halloween Birthday Party Decorations
Decorations for our ghost party were pretty simple. We kept to orange and black as primary Halloween colors, but we added in hot pink and purple. I bought the big yard ghost at At Home back in the summer when the Halloween decorations first hit the stores. It was around $20 dollars, but I kept in mind that this ghost could be added to our home decor and used for years to come at Halloween. In the second picture below, you can see how we moved the ghost to our front yard after the party.
I also bought 24 ghost hangers at our local Family Dollar for $1 each. I picked them because the cute ghost face was smiling in each one – the perfect ghost for kids. The key to a Halloween birthday party for young kids is that the ghosts look happy and not scary. My mom and I added the pink and purple tutus, hair bows, and neck scarves to all the ghosts. At the party, we used these ghosts as the main decoration. We hung them on the ends of the tables and strung them along on buntings and banners around the pavilion.
This banner below did not turn out how I had wished. The tape I brought kept failing me so we wound up having to rig up the banner this way. The chalkboard banner says, “Happy Boo Day.”
At the end of the party, we gave them to the guests to take home as their party favors. A day before the party, I questioned myself. It dawned on me the little boy guests might not want to take a girl ghost home. However, my mama friends have reported to me that even their sons loved the ghost favors.
By the way, the girls’ adorable Boo outfits were purchased last year at an online boutique (sorry, I can’t remember which one) on after-Halloween clearance. (Yes, I have had this Boo-llerina party idea brewing in my head since last Halloween!) My mom sewed on a strip of pink tulle on each ghost to make them ballerina ghosts. This idea could easily be replicated with Halloween clothing from nearly every store. The great thing about planning a Halloween birthday party is that you have clothing and decor choices everywhere right now!
I found this other ghost door hanger at Walmart for $3. I added a tulle skirt to it. It hung on one of the posts during the party. After the party, I hung it on our front door for our Halloween decor.
I had also considered making those adorable little lolly pop ghosts and adding a pink tulle skirt. But you know – time management is not my strong suit so this never happened.
Boo-llerina Halloween Birthday Party Food
The food was simple – hot dogs from the slow cooker and individual bags of chips. I’m not going to lie – I was a bit nervous of using the slow-cooker hot dog method for the very first time while serving 40+ people. But it worked out perfectly! I stood over 60 hot dogs upright in the slow cooker with no water. At home at 7:30 a.m., I turned the slow cooker on high to cook for about an hour until I left for the park.
Once I got to the park (five minutes from my house), I immediately plugged the slow cooker in again and let the hot dogs cook on high for the next hour and a half. I’m a believer! The slow-cooker hot dogs are the perfect party food! Although I prefer grilled hot dogs, this was the most fuss-free way to go while setting up for a party, and little kids sometimes do not like to eat hot dogs with grill marks. Win-win!
If you are planning to have a Boo-llerina party, you could always go for some ghost-themed foods, as well.
Dessert included birthday cupcakes, cake, and Halloween cookies (in our color theme) from the Walmart bakery. We served Capri Suns and Nestle Pure Life Halloween waters for drinks. I had also considered making little ghosts out of water bottles, but the Nestle waters, found at Walmart, already added a fun festive touch as it was. I bought five of these little ghosts from Hobby Lobby to go on tabletops, and we added the tulle skirts and bows.
Boo-llerina Cake for a Girls’ Ghost Party
One of my coworkers has a local baking business on the side called Sweets and Smiles by Heather. She has made our birthday cakes and cupcakes for the last two years – four our pumpkin patch party and our Trolls party. I left the task up to her to come up with a cute boo-llerina cake with coordinating cupcakes! I didn’t even question what she would design because I knew it would be perfect! Is this boo-llerina cake not the cutest ever for a Halloween birthday party?
I hope you enjoyed our boo-llerina party! Not only are these cute ghost party ideas great for a little girl’s Halloween birthday party, but it would also be fun for a little kid Halloween party, in general!
