With summer on the horizon, I’ve been thinking out some of my favorite quick lunches in the summer time. As I am a teacher, I am typically at home scrambling to feed my kids three meals a day – something I’m not used to doing when school is in session. These frozen El Monterey burritos in the air fryer will definitely be one of our lunch ideas that stay on rotation. Frozen burritos in the air fryer are quick and heat well.
Buying Frozen Burritos to Cook in the Air Fryer
You can buy frozen burritos at most grocery stores in the frozen foods area. We are not tied to a specific brand, but most often we wind up with El Monterey at Kroger or Walmart. Of course, a lot of the other brands taste just as good to us.
There are multiple flavors and versions of the El Monterey frozen burritos. You can often find the El Monterey beef and bean, bean and cheese, or green chili beef and bean. In this post, I am using the beef and bean.
How Long to Cook Frozen Burritos in the Air Fryer
With our Phillips 2 quart air fryer, I can only fit about three burritos at once. Some people have much larger ones that might can fit five or six.
Place the El Monterey burritos in the air fryer basket with space around each. With a small air fryer like ours, it is hard to fit more than a few without overlap.
Typically, 11-15 minutes is a good range – with the burritos resulting in varying shades of browning and stages of crisping. I often pull mine out at about 13 minutes. Cook for six minutes, flip, and then cook for another six minutes. From there, you can evaluate how much longer you need to cook or if you are happy with how the burritos look.
Of course, all air fryers are different. It might be best to keep an eye on the the burritos a few minutes before the timer goes off – especially the first time you are making this recipe.
What to Serve With These Frozen El Monterey Air Fryer Burritos
Usually, I serve the frozen air fried burritos with tortilla chips and salsa or store-bought guacamole. Sometimes, I serve them with a side salad or a side of fruit.
After all, it is supposed to be a quick lunch. Keep it simple!
