Today, I’m excited to share this easy Easter sprinkle cookies recipe! We use this roll out sugar sprinkles cookies recipe for Easter cookies every year! In fact, this base butter sugar cookies recipe can be used for all holidays including Christmas! There isn’t much cuter than Easter lamb cookies!
What Does Lamb Represent at Easter?
Have you ever wondered why we see lamb stuffed animals and lamb-themed foods at Easter? For many, lamb represents sacrifice in the Bible.
While many of us ooh and ahhh over the adorable nature of lamb cookies for Easter, lamb cupcakes, and more, we often forget that the lamb actually does have a deeper meaning than simply another cute animal food! While some people might refer to our recipe as sheep cookies, we like to call them lamb recipes to truly connect these as Easter cookies. However, there is no reason you couldn’t follow this same recipe anytime you need sheep cookies for a farm party theme or similar event.
Kids Love Helping Make Easter Lamb Cookies
Years ago, SB and LO started helping in the kitchen with holiday baking and casual baking. We made our Easter cross cookies for a separate post on the same day we took these Easter lamb cookies photos. I still remember the attention to detail SB paid to every little step during this cooke-making session!
Using Cookie Cutters for Easter Sprinkle Cookies
Over the years, I have stocked cookie cutters for all types of seasons, holidays, and events. These sugar sprinkles cookies can truly be made for any occasion.
I find that we have better luck with the metal cookie cutters than the plastic ones.
We try to roll the dough to a thickness of about 1/3 of an inch or so. The cookie cutters should glide in and out of the dough very easily.
Keeping Things Simple with Sprinkles Instead of Icing
Next comes sprinkles. We have used icing before for a version of buttercream frosted sugar cookies. We have also used a powdered sugar glaze for glazed sugar cookies.
But more times than not, we stick with simple sanding sugar for these Easter lamb cookies.
Of course, blue sprinkles. Because what other color should a lamb be?
For this particular time in the kitchen, we added a single chocolate sprinkle (jimmie) to some of the lambs for the eye.
After we had repeated the steps and cut out all the dough, we had about 36 rolled Easter lamb cookies.
