If you are looking for some fun Christmas party ideas at work, look no further! I am sharing some super fun Christmas party ice breaker questions that can be used in an in person staff Christmas party or even at at virtual Christmas party.
Virtual Christmas party? Yep, it’s 2020, folks.
Last year, it was the first year for my school to be open. We were a brand new staff (brought together from three other schools within the district) in a brand new amazing building working with amazing kids in the district. Some of my friends and I were on the staff Christmas party committee, and we knew we had to start the first annual party had to be an epic one. We had the best time coming up with Christmas trivia questions for party fun!
And, boy, did we have fun!
What’s great is our teacher Christmas party ideas are perfect for any corporate or office staff Christmas party!

Decorations and Secret Santa – Christmas Party Ideas at Work
Our school Christmas party involved a potluck style food area and a cute photo backdrop. These two things are staples behind staff Christmas party ideas.
Here are a few pictures of our staff Christmas party set up. For the tables, one of my fellow party planners made the table centerpieces out of balloons and construction paper for budget-friendly decorations!
Office Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest
Is there any other more popular staff Christmas party idea than the good ole’ ugly Christmas sweater contest? Our staff is no exception! These folks love an ugly sweater! We made a big production of an ugly Christmas sweater runway with appointed judges. Our runway involved making a grand entrance down a flight of stairs.
We put a prop station next to the ugly Christmas sweater photo booth.
Staff Christmas Bake Off
Our school had a staff Christmas bake off (pre-Covid times) which was a totally optional element to our staff Christmas party. We sent out invitations about two weeks before the party. We asked for interested staff members to contact one of the party committee members to let us know they intended to participate.
On party day, we had 8-10 desserts entered into the Christmas bake off. It wasn’t bad for a first-year event in the middle of holiday madness. We allowed participants to enter any type of dessert. But you could easily narrow a staff bake off down to a Christmas cookie bake off or a holiday cake bake off, etc.
Our staff Christmas party was held in the school library. At the party, we had a certain section of our library designated to the bake off. We put labels beside each dessert on a super fancy Post-It Note. Haha! If we do the bake off again, I would like to bring cute little tags. But the Post Its worked just fine, too!
We didn’t have any rules for presentation/types of containers, etc. After all, this is a volunteer event on a super, super hectic school week for staff members!
We awarded two prizes – one for Grand Champion (best taste) and another for most visually appealing. And guess who our judge was? Our superintendent! She kindly left her office on a super hectic day to come to our school to judge our bake off. She came early – before the party – and did her task. Then, she left us to our festivities. We really appreciated her involvement!
Here was our Most Visually Appealing dessert entry – hot cocoa cupcakes.
Christmas Trivia Questions for Party Planners
My friends and I laughed and laughed as we came up with the Christmas trivia questions for our party. These aren’t just any old Christmas trivia questions. These questions are questions about specific staff members. We had the best time predicting some of the responses.
During our in-person Christmas party, the contestants of the ugly Christmas sweater contest were each asked one Christmas trivia question as they arrived at the end of the runway. Our three counselors were the ones who asked our Christmas party game questions. We had them set up at a special table near the end of the runway.
We couldn’t have asked for better responses! Of course, those coworkers who love to ham it up went the extra mile – as we knew they would! I mean, seriously, I wish I could share a video here of some of our coworkers responding to the questions. Hysterical!
Honestly, I think many of these Christmas party game questions (though not all) could even be used with students in the classroom. Kids would have fun answering some of these questions about the school staff, also!
If you want to download this free printable to use at your own staff Christmas party, you will simply put a specific coworker’s name in some of the blanks, as directed.

Christmas Party Ideas at Work in a Virtual Christmas Party Setting
To be honest, I don’t think a virtual Christmas party will be as fun as the in-person Christmas parties we are used to. But, please. Prove me wrong! In this social distancing party era, we will all do what we have to do. I will probably be involved in some virtual Christmas party planning myself. Zoom Christmas party, here we come!
As you will see, with a little creativity and flexibility, you can switch your staff Christmas party ideas to a virtual Christmas party setting.
Using Christmas Trivia Questions at a Virtual Christmas Party
My idea for implementing the Christmas party game questions would be to set up a Google form (if your business or school is a Google school district or company) with all of the questions you wish to use. Set the form so that those completing the survey can view the results. This will add a little fun to their day when they read the responses. Encourage those answering the open-ended questions to be detailed and/or funny in their responses!
If your school or office is having a Zoom Christmas party, then the principal or manager (or any volunteer) can lead everyone through the survey responses. This will allow for laughter, feedback, and funny add-ons which will seem more like the in-person Christmas party game.
Or your work leader might think it will be more fun to ask the questions live over Zoom.
Holding a Staff Bake Off at a Zoom Christmas Party
A Christmas bake off at a Zoom Christmas party? Yes, I am serious. Although, you can’t exactly judge the taste in a virtual Christmas party, you could still have people present their desserts in their Zoom screen. The entire group of participants could submit a name for Best Appearance, Most Festive, and Most Creative. Participants could either just submit a name on the Zoom chat feature. Or you could instruct everyone to follow instructions for Poll Everywhere (25 max participants for a free account) or Doodle.
And the bonus? The dessert makers get to keep all their dessert to themselves! Score!
Office Christmas Decor Contest
Each interested participant could show off his/her office Christmas decorations. If people are working from home, they can do the same with their home Christmas decorations. Votes could be taken with chat, Poll Everywhere, or Doodle, as described above.
You could even streamline it more for a Christmas door contest, if you wanted.
See? You can transition some of your favorite Christmas party ideas for work to a virtual Christmas party setting!
Virtual Ugly Sweater Contest
Same as above, you can still go on with your office ugly sweater contest on Zoom. You never know. Coworkers who have never participated in real life ugly Christmas sweater contests might feel more comfortable participating in a virtual ugly sweater contest on Zoom! As with an in-person ugly sweater contest, you will want to go over your ugly sweater contest rules ahead of time.
