Pie crust. Sausage. Cheddar. Fresh herbs. What more could a person want in life? For years, I have been making this cheddar and sausage quiche recipe for special occasion brunches or breakfasts – Mother’s Day weekends, girls’ weekends, and Christmas gatherings. It is an easy sausage cheese quiche, and if you are running low on time, you can always use a ready-made crust. Or maybe you prefer to leave the crust off for a low-carb crustless sausage quiche.
Thankfully, I found this sausage and cheese quiche in a Taste of Home magazine insert years ago. It is one of many Jimmy Dean sausage quiche recipes I have seen over the years. I have made minor changes to the original recipe over the years. Any pork sausage would work though I prefer to use Jimmy Dean pork sausage (medium). This Jimmy Dean sausage quiche recipe has become a family favorite. My kids call it sausage and egg pie.
How to Make Quiche – Preparing the Crust for Cheddar and Sausage Quiche
First, I preheat the oven to 350 degrees and begin to prepare the crust.
For the easy no-roll pie crust, I mix flour and salt in a glass pie plate. Then, I combine a little milk and oil in a measuring glass before pouring it into the pie plate. I stir the mixture until all the liquid is absorbed. Next, I form the dough into a ball and begin pressing it over the bottom and up the sides of the pie plate. I make sure there are no overly thin spots.
Next comes the crimping. I crimp the edges of the dough with a fork and prick the bottom to prevent bubbles. Once ready, I place in the oven for about 12 minutes. The crust does not need to get overly brown since it will be going back in the oven once filled. I set it aside and crank the oven up to 375 degrees.
Preparing the Filling for Sausage and Cheese Quiche
Next, the cheddar cheese is sprinkled on top.
Next, the quiche pie takes its next journey of life into the oven. It’s best to cover the crust with foil to prevent over-browning. I leave it in for 35-40 minutes, sliding a knife inside to check to see it if is set at the end. Lastly, I allow it to set for 10-15 minutes so it can cool a touch and set up a bit.
Well, this sausage and cheese quiche is pure perfection!
I mean, what a beautiful sausage and egg pie!
