Consider The Teacher’s Personality When Choosing Teacher Plant Gifts
If you know your teacher has struggled with plants in the past, you probably should go the safer route when getting him or her back into the world of living gifts. I will give you some ideas below for the best plants to give as gifts for low-maintenance. On the other hand, if your person is already a crazy plant person, maybe this is the time to venture out with a more unique house plant.
However, in the case of back-to-school teacher gifts, it is very possible you will know very little about this person at the time you are choosing a gift. Therefore, I recommend going low-key with some of the easier plants to care for.
What Kind of Classroom Does this Teacher Occupy?
Maybe you intend for this plant to be a classroom plant. Perhaps, you want the teacher to enjoy the plant at home. Since you may very well never have laid eyes on the space the plant will live in, we will consider some teacher plants that should thrive in most conditions.
To play it safe, I prefer giving small plants as gifts as opposed to large house plants. Unless you are familiar with the person’s space, give small plants as teacher plant gifts. If you know the person has a ton of space, you might entertain the idea of giving a large plant to fill some of that space.
Does the classroom or home have much sunlight? That will help determine what kind of plant to give as well. There are plenty of great plants for dark classrooms. Does the person have an outdoor space – a porch, a deck, a patio? If the person lives in a warmer area, you have a possibility of gifting a patio plant.
Our Recommendations for Teacher Plants to Gift
Gifting plants for someone you don’t know very well takes a bit of thinking. You certainly don’t want to give something that is going to require a lot of maintenance during a stressful time in someone’s life – such as the start of school for a teacher!
Here are our recommendations for the best plants to give teachers!
I truly love visiting my local nursery and plant departments to hand pick plants. They are chosen with love! However, there are may online options these days for ordering plants! Make sure to understand shipping times may be a little different than what you are used to. We are talking about shipping living things so a little more care has to go into the shipping and arrival! You definitely don’t want to leave a package of live plants out on your doorstep for 4-5 days.
- Peace Lily – These plants symbolize peace and comfort. They are mostly low maintenance. But when they are unhappy, boy will they let you know it!
- Small Snake Plants – Snake plants are mellow friends. They will just chill in the background of the classroom and let the kids bring the chaos!
- Golden Pothos – These plants are great for any occasion, really.
- Heart-leaf Philodendron – The heart-shaped leaves of this philodendron remind me a person they are loved and cared for!
- ZZ Plant – This one is one of my favorites! They require extremely little care or bother. As long as the teacher can remember to water his ZZ plant about once every two-three weeks or so, a ZZ ought to be fine!
- Neon Pothos – This plant has an electric energy that is sure to excite a teacher!
- Succulents – With their wide range of styles and colors, succulents are fun plants to gift! Granted, succulents are easier to kill than people think. As me how I know this!
- Variety Pack of Easy Care Plants – This variety pack of easy care plants would be perfect to look into if you need to order multiple teacher plant gifts. Your variety might include plants such as peace lily, snake plant, philodendron, etc.
After you choose the perfect plant, be sure to add a cute plant gift tag for teachers to finish off the theme!
As far as choosing a pot (if you choose to do that), make sure you are choosing the correct pot for the size of plants! Many small plants come in 2-inch or 4-inch plastic pots. Others come in 6-inch plastic pots. I prefer to leave the plants in their original plastic pots. Then, I simply insert the plastic pot into a nicer ceramic pot. But this means I have to be careful as to match the size of the ceramic pot to the plant.
Accessories for Teacher Plants
Of course, you might want to add a few plant accessories to your teacher plant gifts. Here are some cute ideas!
- Thank You for Helping Me Grow Flower Pot – This pot is so cute filled with a lively green plant. Not tag is even necessary, although you mind want to add your child’s name and school year in Sharpie to the bottom or back of the pot as a memento!
- 6 Pack of Teacher Plant Pots – If you have multiple teachers to gift, you might wish to purchase this multi-pot. I like that each pot is different.
- 3 Pack of Teacher Plant Pots – These three plant pots all have the same “Best Teacher Ever” wording. They include built-in saucers which is a nice touch!
- Thanks for Helping Me Grow Greeting Card – If you are gifting a gift card or simply just want to write a thoughtful note, this greeting card is a classy choice.
- Thank You for Making a Difference Planter Box – I was given this cute teacher plant gift by my Secret Pal a few years ago. It is perfect for a teacher who loves plants!
