Surely, I am not the only teacher who does a jig when it is time to put together my cute teacher outfits for back to school? Yep. Didn’t think so!
I would argue that teachers have more seasons to transition for that the average working mom. For instance, we have the summer to back-to-school transition where we have to get used to actually wearing clothes again. Then, we have the fall season. Next, we have the fall to Christmas break transition (from professional to jammies ALL day). Then, we have winter and spring. Finally, there is spring to summer transition (jammies ALL day again). Haha! I’m just kidding. Sort of.
Today, I am sharing some cute teacher outfits to inspire your own back to school teacher outfits. Before we go any further, you might want to click over to my printable wardrobe planner and get ready to plan some outfits for your first month of school! Planning out your outfits in advance is one step in a successful school year!

I’m a big fan of mixing patterns. It adds a punch of fun into the sometimes monotonous school day. Whether it’s adding a pop of floral to a graphic punch of stripes or pairing two unexpected geometric patterns together, mixing patterns is a sure fire way to freshen up your back to school teacher outfits!
Cute Teacher Outfits with Dresses
As you will see in this post, I own a lot of very similar black-and-white striped dresses. This one with with a drawstring waist is from Time and Tru. I can’t find the exact one on the site at this time, but I am linking up a similar one on Amazon.
- Striped Dress with Drawstring Waist
- Red and White Plaid Shirt
- Black Booties (This Aztec pair I am wearing from a store that no longer exists.)
Utility Vest Outfits for Back to School
You can easily layer clothes with utility vests for a casual vest outfit. Utility vest outfits make great cold weather outfits, spring outfits, fall outfits, and even in summer.
This utility vest outfit is a fun casual Friday look!
- Tan Utility Vest (Anorak Vest)
- Camouflage High Top Sneakers
- Raw Hem Jeans
In late winter/early spring, the weather will often warm up enough to wear a dress bare-legged. I like to transition into spring weather by layering dresses with a lightweight utility vest.
Red Cardigan Outfits for Teachers
This red cardigan is the bomb diggity! Unfortunately, the one I have it no longer in stock. However, I am linking up a very similar one from Grace Karin, which happens to be one of my favorite women’s clothing brands on Amazon. Everything I have bought from this brand has been great!
This red cardigan outfit goes with so many different teacher outfits, church outfits, weekend outfits…you name it! I love to tie the sides up for certain cardigan looks. Other times, I leave the sides loose for a swingy cardigan look.
- Red Cardigan from Amazon
- Loose Fit Black and White Striped Tank
- Straight Leg Black Pants (This pair has excellent reviews but the real reason I am recommending these pants is because they come in petite, regular, and tall with a yoga pants feel.)
- Born Open Toe Sandals (These aren’t the exact same version as mine but this pair looks nice and comfy for wearing to school all day.)
These back to school teacher outfits aren’t really just for teachers. Obviously, they are perfect for the classroom, but they are just as comfy and cute for mom life and for other professions.
I’m curious what kind of dress code is enforced at other schools around the United States and abroad? It seems teacher dress codes are more relaxed with each generation. The more relaxed society’s dress code becomes, the more relaxed many workplace dress codes become. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I like to dress up. But I’m also more relaxed in my style lately – though I still prefer my outfits to look polished.
Dress Outfits with Kimonos
I love mixing a striped dress with a floral kimono! It is such a striking and fun look! And you have so much flexibility with outfits with kimonos! You can wear a kimono with jeans on casual Friday, a kimono with trousers and a tank, or a kimono with a dress.
- Floral Kimono (This floral kimono comes in many different color schemes.)
- Striped Swing Dress
- Black Sandals (similar are linked above)
Right now I have plans to spend the afternoon piecing together some new back to school teacher outfits from my closet – in anticipation of the new school year which kicks up sooner than I want to admit! As much as I dread the end of summer, I do look forward to some fresh back to school ideas!
