Ingredients
I like to cook pork sausage up ahead of time and freeze the crumbled sausage in quart Ziplock bags for easy meals. It makes it so easy for making dishes like this one which just need a couple of cups of pre-cooked sausage!
For the pie crust, I like to use Pillsbury crusts.
- Refrigerated pie crust, 8-9”
- Pre-cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Onion
- Eggs
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Parsley (optional)
Substitutions and/or Additions
You can easily switch out ingredients for this egg dish.
- Instead of cheddar cheese, you can use Swiss cheese.
- Instead of sausage, you can use leftover ham or bacon crumbles.
- If you prefer a vegetarian quiche, you can omit the meat and add leftover veggies.
- Add chopped onions.
- Add bell peppers.
- Add green onions.
- Add sundried tomatoes.
How to Cook Quiche in an Air Fryer
To cook quiche in an air fryer, you will obviously need an air fryer pan. The runny eggs and pie crust need a structured container in the basket of the air fryer to hold it as it cooks to a firm consistency.
I love my 8 inch air fryer pie pan from my air fryer accessory kit. This pie pan is also an air fryer pizza pan also and can be used for casseroles, air fryer frittata dishes, and other air fryer recipes for easy breakfast!
If the pie crust you are using overhangs from the 8-inch pan, you will need to trim the excess dough before starting the cooking process.
Make sure there are no bare spots in the crust. If you have bare spots, the egg is going to leak between the crust and the pie plate when you pour egg mixture in, potentially leading to a soggy crust rather than a flaky crust!
You will add in the meat and cheese in a single layer. Prepare the egg mixture and carefully pour over the meat filling.
Cooking Time
With our Phillips 2 quart air fryer, we have found the magic number to be about 15 minutes at 325 degrees f or until the center of the air fryer sausage quiche is firm. Of course, all air fryers are different. Therefore, your air fryer might require a minute or two less or more.
It might be best to keep an eye on the the dish a few minutes before the timer goes off. You can open the drawer of the air fryer and peep inside to see gauge if there is a crisp crust and a set center. The top of the crust should be golden brown and the quiche filling should be set and not jiggly at the end of the cooking time. The texture of the quiche should have sausage raised into the shredded cheese on the top layer.
Carefully, remove the pie shell with the cooked egg filling out of the air fryer basket. You want to be careful to not rough up the edge of the baked pie dough as you are lifting it out of of the basket.
