Best Peanut Butter to Air Fry PB&J
I’m all about the crunch so crunchy peanut butter is the only option for me! But if you like smooth peanut butter, go for it! Both creamy and crunchy peanut butter styles work well with this air fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Sandwich Bread for Air Fryer Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
My go-to breads for sandwiches usually involve nuts and/or grains. I like the texture of the extra ingredients against the smoothness of the jelly.
For our basic sandwiches at home, we usually use Braum’s honey oat or Nature’s Own honey wheat. All have turned out nicely as a choice for bread for air fryer hot sandwiches.
Should You Add Butter to the Bread?
With a normal grilled cheese, you often add softened butter to the outside sides of both pieces of bread. You grill or griddle each side of the sandwich the butter allowing for a nice brown coloring and crispness to the bread.
The concept is the same for the air fryer peanut butter and jelly. The spread you use will go on the outside pieces – not the inside. For my air fryer hot sandwiches, I sometimes use Country Crock as it spreads easily onto the bread.
Best Jelly for Air Fryer Peanut Butter Sandwich
We are a grape jelly household. My girls turn their noses at pretty much any flavor other than grape. Maybe one of these days this phase will run its course, and we can add some more varieties to our fridge.
The best jelly for an air fryer peanut butter sandwich is going to be whichever one is already your favorite for a regular peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
However, I do suggest going with a thicker jelly. The cheap runny jelly varieties will possibly run off the bread, leaving a mess in the air fryer.
Flip Once During Cook Time in the Air Fryer
I usually flip the sandwich one time during the cooking process.
When the sandwich is golden brown on the outside, you know it is perfect! Be careful not to overcook because the sandwich will become more crunchy than you may prefer!
This recipe can also be used as a regular fried PB&J – grilled in a skillet on the stove.
