A Night Out with Daddy and Amelia Bedelia

Disclosure: I am a brand ambassador for McDonald’s. I am being compensated for this A Night Out with Daddy and Amelia Bedelia post. All thoughts are my own.

What fun my girls had on a night out with Daddy and Amelia Bedelia last week!

They weren’t dressed to the nines in fancy dresses and Daddy wasn’t wearing a tie, but they were ready for french fries, ice cream, and fun in their play clothes.

I sometimes get tickled by what I see on Pinterest. Small children don’t need an expensive evening to enjoy one-on-one time with their parents. When I first mentioned something to the girls about going on a night out with Daddy, Scooter Britches was quick to say, “Can we go to McDonald’s?”

Little One followed up by repeating what big sister said – her usual habit. “Can we go Donald’s?”

When the girls loaded up in the car with their daddy and took off down the street, I couldn’t help but giggle. It’s only been maybe two months since the man braved taking the girls to a restaurant on his own. Before then, he acted terrified at the idea of taking them out to eat by himself.

According to Daddy’s photo documentation, the girls enjoyed their usual Happy Meals – Chicken McNuggets for SB and a Cheeseburger for LO.

But ketchup with apples? Umm…Mommy probably would have put an end to that silliness!

There are no photos of the play time. Apparently, both girls made a little friend in the play area and spent a good amount of time climbing, laughing, and playing hide and seek with their new friends.

Afterward, the three of them shared an Ice Cream Sundae. Daddy used good judgement, determining it was too late on a school night for them to each get their own. These girls get wilder than a March hair when they eat sugar at night.

The cute video below shows how the girls feel about McDonald’s Ice Cream Sundaes.

When they made it back home, SB ran into the house, squealing with excitement for me to come see the new books they got in their Happy Meals.

Y’all.

Amelia Bedelia!

Yes, THE Amelia Bedelia from our youth!

Poor SB, LO, and Hubs had to hear me go on and on about how the Amelia Bedelia series, by Herman Parish, was the absolute best book series of my childhood and about how my parents took me to the library every Thursday to find a new book.

According to news information on the McDonald’s website, Harper Collins Publishing has joined up with McDonald’s USA to bring four popular titles to Happy Meals in celebration of National Literacy Month. The other three titles included “Pete the Cat’s Got Class” by James Dean, “Just a School Project” by Mercer Mayer, and “If You Take a Mouse to School” by Laura Numeroff. If you missed the Happy Meal book promotion, McDonald’s always has fun Happy Meal toys!

As a teacher, a mom and a book lover, I am so proud to serve as ambassador for a company which promotes and encourages literacy!

We snuggled up and read the book together before bed that night. Since SB is in Pre-K4 now, she seemed to really have an interest in the setting of the one we read, which centers around Amelia’s first day of school.

A night out with Daddy and Amelia Bedelia was certainly a hit! I look forward to seeing the girls enjoy many more nights out with their Daddy as the years go by.

I’m a book worm myself so I love that Mc D’s chose to help promote reading in children. And the girls date with daddy… adorable! Those moments really last a lifetime.

It sounds like they had a great time on their Daughter-Daddy date. My kids love the Amelia Bedelia books. They also love with the Pete the Cat series and the If you Give/Take a Mouse books I hate that we missed out of these at McDonald’s.

Aww. Such a nice story of daddy daughter food outing. 💙 haha the apples and ketchup is pretty gross… but your daughters are beautiful. Such cute pictures. It’s awesome McDonald’s is giving away books! Especially our awesome old school ones!
