Disclosure: I am a being compensated for this Happy Meal Website Fun for Kids post as a brand ambassador for McDonald’s. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We are all familiar with Happy Meals – a cheery-colored box filled with McNuggets, fries, milk, and toys. Oh, and apple slices! Let’s not forget the apple slices!
But did you know that there is also a Happy Meal website with games and other fun activities for toddlers and young kids?
We have always been pretty conservative about allowing our girls to spend time on electronics. Except for TV because I watched a ton of TV when I was kid, and I turned out okay. Right? Just kidding. We actually do limit TV time, too, as much as it pains me some days.
But Scooter Britches is of the age now where I feel better about letting her have a bit of screen time on our phones, tablet, or computer. (By the way, she turned four last weekend if you didn’t catch my sappy post. Four!) TV was one thing, but I didn’t want her getting too accustomed to grabbing my phone or laptop whenever she wanted to for games or videos. But now, I feel she understands time limits more than she used to.
I came across the Happy Meal website a few months ago while doing some research off of the main McDonald’s website for another post I was working on. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. For one thing, the site contains appropriate content for young children. I have no worries whatsoever about anything there being too mature for SB. Secondly, the content is changed frequently, based on the types of Happy Meal toys which are being distributed at the moment. And fresh content is good content, right?
For the last few weeks, McDonald’s included superhero-themed toys in the Happy Meals. Now, as we edge closer to Halloween, the them has changed to Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin. At the time I am writing this, the Happy Meal website games and activities are based on Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin whereas last week, the focus was superheroes.
Some favorites that SB has discovered are the “Milkelangelo Design Studio” and the coloring design studios– one for the current Happy Meal toys and one for the Happy Meal box. (Isn’t the Happy Meal box just the…well…happiest little box ever?)
There is also an art design studio focused on recycling the milk containers that come in the Happy Meals to use them for art. Other sections on the site include e-books, videos, and kid-friendly video games.
As far as mobility, the Happy Meal website works just fine on mobile devices.
And don’t forget about the separate Happy Meal app for some additional McPower play! Have you seen these little pieces that accompany your child’s Happy Meal toy? Once you have downloaded the Happy Meal app to your mobile device, you can scan these little chips for some additional games connected to the particular Happy Meal toy.
Be sure to swing by the Happy Meal website and check it out yourself! I think you will feel good about letting your child put his creative energies to use on this site!
