Blogging Vocabulary Quiz: How Many Do You Know?

On matters of blogging vocabulary, how much do you know? Time for a blogging vocabulary quiz!

blogging vocabulary

I told you in this post how I grew from a naive blogger without a bloggy care in the world into a more serious blogger obsessed with learning as much about the ins-and-outs of this challenging blog world as possible.

In the spirit of celebrating the two-year rebirth of my blog, a blogging vocabulary quiz will be fun.

Oh, the data? Don’t worry. We will be sure to spend eons of time analyzing the data of your responses. Nothing more important than data, folks.

Blogging Vocabulary Quiz

Multiple choice? Oh, silly reader friend! We are in a Common Core world! A modern day teacher like myself wouldn’t insult you with a simple multiple choice quiz these days! And even if it was multiple choice, there would be so much work involved on my end. I would be designing the questions with boldface or underlined qualifiers, removing distracting information, aligning the question with learning standards and goals, and encouraging higher order thinking. I would need to consider placing the blank at the end of the stem and not the beginning, including “stimulus” material, organizing the answers in a logical order, making sure you had taken formative assessments in advance that would have prepared you for this style of blogging vocabulary quiz, etc.

Psssshhhh.

I’m on summer break, people.

Instead, I was thinking you could each research various argumentative articles concerning how relevant two-three of the following terms are to the blogging process. Next, you will write a constructive response for each term in which you must provide evidence which supports the claims of the authors of the…

Nah. Still on summer break.

How about we take the easy way and you just quickly scan the list?  Keep in mind this is not even a complete compilation of blogging vocabulary. This is only what I could think up on my own as I wrote this post.

To see a truly mind-blowing list of terms, visit the Giant Blogging Terms Glossary. I stumbled across a few new vocab terms at this site. Blogstipation? Blogathy? Blogopotamus? Blogorrhea? Blurker? Haha…love them!

So, there you have it…way more blogging vocabulary than some of you will ever care to know. And maybe way less than some of you already know! To think, I didn’t even get into discussing specifics of the five gazillion plug-ins out there.

This unschooled girl from 2007 has been enlightened on the real deal of blogging. Not that she completely understands SEO yet (ever?!), but she knows it’s a pretty serious blog thingie and is making progress.

Blog friends, can you think of any other words I missed on the blogging vocabulary quiz?

EMV was new to me. As a former programmer on web front-ended applications, I was reasonably sure I’d know the techy stuff, but I’m not as social media savvy as I could be. Thanks for being part of #TwinklyTuesday.

Sadia, I envy your background as a programmer! I think blogging life would be so much easier if I knew how to do basic web-based tasks. Instead, I panic every time something goes wrong! Thanks for coming by!

Most of these I know, er um…I’ve heard before, somewhere I believe! Now not only do I have to figure out my niche, editorial calendar, hootsuite, and alexa (seriously, does anyone get Alexa?) now I have to figure out what SEO hat I’m wearing…black, grey or white! Thank God they are all neutrals, aren’t neutrals supposed to go with anything? AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGG!

  3. Rachel says:

Wow Amy! You nailed it, funny how I had heard of most all of these terms but trying to remember what they do is another thing and I would maybe pass the quiz with a high D or low C haha! Thanks for linking this post up to “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” this past week.

There’s a lot of info and vocabulary to learn in this blogging world, isn’t there!

Thanks for sharing an informative and interesting article.

I came over on Twinkly Tuesdays, and I’m glad to find your site.

    Blessings,
    Melanie

Man! Just when I thought I had a handle on this world, I see your list of terms I haven’t even heard of yet! Always something new to learn – thanks for putting these all in one place!

Lanae, from what I understand, Alexa is kind of an overall ranking of how popular one website is compared with all the other websites. It is based on page views and unique views and all that jazz. Sooo much to know! Thanks for stopping by!
