Disclosure: This Grandma Hearts Bedtime book post is a sponsored post. I was provided a copy of the book for the purpose of reviewing.
How perfect was it that my parents happened to be visiting the day we received our copy of Grandma Hearts Bedtime book? The girls were able to have their first reading of the book with their grandma, whom they refer to as Mita (shortened for Mamita).
Included in the package that the girls opened was a toothbrush with the Grandma Hearts logo printed on it. It was a fun little surprise, and Scooter Britches was just as excited over the toothbrush as she was the book!
The Bedtime book, by Dionne Kelm, is a sweet read with a grandma character laying out all the shoulds and musts of a good bedtime routine while also declaring her love for her grandchild.
The artwork, by Mary Manning, is clever with soft images of a grandma and her grandson spending time together and doing their bedtime routines together. My favorite page is a scene of Grandma reading the same Bedtime book (with the identical cover and everything) to her grandson.
Watching my mom read the book to my girls reminded me of the important role grandparents play in the lives of little kids. They are there to help reinforce the rules of life we parents are desperately trying to instill in them. This book is one more resource to help with the lessons of a consistent bedtime routine.
Kelm, a grandma of four and a former elementary teacher, puts a twist on the typical family book by focusing on the special bond of grandparents and grandchildren rather than parent and child.
Little One enjoyed pointing out pictures on the pages and saying the words.
“He read booook.”
I like that the book reinforces most of the same bedtime routines that we implement at home: snuggles, brushing teeth and cleaning faces, lullaby songs, and the habit of tidying up before bed. In addition to those things, we pray together as a family, and one of us tucks in SB while the other rocks LO and tucks her in. As much as I love the snuggles, bedtime can sometimes be one of the toughest parts of the day over here. Therefore, I welcome any tool that helps to get the message across to the girls about the importance of a consistent and fast routine!
My mom made a point to check the girls teeth, hands, and faces while reading the parts of the book which focused on those routines.
